Hamilton reelected CrimeStoppers president

Loren Hamilton, Coordinator for Crime Stoppers of Morgan, Scott, and Cass Counties, was recently reelected President of the Illinois State Crime Stoppers Association.

PORTA-AC attends Sangamo Conference

The PORTA-AC Central High School boys’ track team placed fourth out of eleven teams and the girls’ track team finished ninth out of ten teams at the Sangamo Conference Track Meet last Tuesday. The boys’ teams’ top finishers were Isaac Rennecker winning the high jump and the triple jump and getting second in the 200 meters, Noah Hardy placing second in the 400 and the long jump and fourth in the 200, Kade Parker finishing third in the 1600 and fifth in the 800, D.J.

Lady Bluejays win over Pawnee

A 1-2 week by the PORTA-AC Central High School softball team has the Lady Bluejays sitting at 8-11 going into the final week of the regular season. The Jays lost conference games to Auburn and Stanford Olympia while taking down Pawnee.

Beardstown Baseball goes 3-0

The Beardstown High School baseball team went 3-0 last week, sweeping West Prairie, Brown County and New Berlin to improve their record to 16-5 on the season. On the road at West Prairie last Tuesday, a seven-run third inning propelled the Tigers to an 11 to 2 victory.

Lady Trojans top Lady Tigers

In a full week for the Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia High School softball team, the Lady Trojans went 4-1, including a win over Cass County rival Beardstown and pushed their season record to 21-6. Playing every day but Saturday, Triopia beat the Tigers, Western, South Fulton and Jacksonville High before losing a heartbreaker to Pittsfield last Friday.

BHS Track competes at conference

The Beardstown High School Track team took part in the West Central Conference track meet last Friday, taking second place out of eight teams in the boys’ meet and fourth place out of six teams in the girls’ competition. Conference champions for the boys were Marcos Laurencio in the 300 hurdles and Joel Sosa in both the 800 and 1600 meters as well as the 4x100 relay team of Laurencio, Michael Sevilla Torres, Kellen Brown and Joshua Severino, the 4x400 team of Severino, Brok Ratliff, Ephrem Kayembe and Darren Lopez and the 4x800 team of Sosa, Bryan Islas, Marin Pineda and Lopez.

Lady Tigers split four games

The Beardstown High School softball team pushed their season record to 17-8 by splitting four games last week. The Lady Tigers sandwiched easy wins over New Berlin and Bushnell Prairie City between losses to Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia and Quincy Notre Dame.

Trojan Baseball roundup

A tough year continued for the Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia High School baseball team with an 0-3 week dropping their season record to 2-19 with one week left in the regular season. The Trojans fell to Havana, lost a heartbreaker to South Fulton and dropped a decision to Rushville-Industry.

Four wins for PORTA-AC Baseball

Four more wins for the PORTA-AC Central High School baseball team last week improved the Bluejays record to 18-8 on the year. All close games, the Jays took down West Central, Auburn, Pawnee and Pittsfield.
