JBS donates to museum

The Old Lincoln Courtroom Museum, Paula Woods, left, accepts a check from Angie Bratsos, middle and Amy Sommers, right, of JBS. The $3,000 check will be used to help fund the “Bringing Lincoln Back to Beardstown” campaign.

Huerta, Kanda State bound

The Beardstown High School girls’ track team will be sending two representatives to the IHSA State Track and Field Championships on Friday, May 23 and Saturday, May 24 at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. The Lady Tigers traveled to Williamsville last Thursday for the Class 2A Sectional and by virtue of their performance there, junior Diana Huerta and sophomore Laetitia Kanda will both be headed back to state championship competition.

Bluejay Baseball gets 20th win

The PORTA-AC Central High School baseball team pushed their season record to 21-9-1 by going 3-1 last week. The Bluejays have one regular season game remaining, scheduled for Monday, May 19 against Havana.

Lady Tigers rout Rockets

The Beardstown High School softball team split a pair of home games last week, pounding the Routt Catholic Rockets 15 to 0 and losing a heartbreaker to Havana 5 to 4. The Lady Tigers finished the regular season with a record of 18-10.

Redbird's Wingert qualifies for State

Virginia-Meredosia-Triopia Junior Faith Wingert has qualified for the IHSA Class 1A Track and Field State Championship meet in the 100-meter dash. Wingert will be competing starting Thursday, May 22 at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.

Lady Jays crush Stags and Panthers

The PORTA-AC Central High School softball team picked up two wins in three games last week to finish the regular season with a mark of 9-12. The Lady Bluejays crushed Hartsburg-Emden 19 to 0 and lost to Havana 7 to 2 at home, then defeated Delavan 15 to 2 on the road.

Tigers end season with a win

After two losses to start the week, the Beardstown High School baseball team rebounded to win their last game of the regular season to finish with a mark of 17-7. The Tigers lost 14 to 4 on the road at Illini West and 5 to 3 at Macomb before knocking off Lewistown-Valley-Cuba 8 to 5 at home.

Zimmerman headed to State

Junior Maggie Zimmerman has qualified for the IHSA Class 1A Track and Field State Championship meet in the 3200-meter run for PORTA-AC Central High School.
