Cell phone policy coming to Virginia

New principal Matt Owens brought up in his report at the Virginia School Board meeting that during the first few days of the 2024-2025 school year, they will ease into the implementation of the new cell phone policy.

Arenzville Village Board will meet at 7:30 pm. Monday, August 5 at Village Hall.

Ashland Village Board will meet at 6 p.m.  Wednesday, August 14 at the Ashland Municipal Building.

July 13 Results: Division 1 - Ages 6-7: Juventus and Los Tigers FC played to a 2 to 2 tie, Atlas Jr. defeated America 1 to 0 tie | Division 2 - Ages 8-9: Real San Jose defeated Los Reales FC 1-0, San Antonio defeated Pachuca 1-0 | Division 3 - Ages 10-11: Los Leoncitos FC defeated Chivas 2-1, Pumas defeated Monaco 4-0Division 4 - Ages 12-14: Aguilas and Atlas played to a 2 to 2 tie, Toros Neza and Real Madrid played to a 3 to 3 tie.

The Spoon River Valley Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 427 presented Rushville-Industry trap coach Calvin Phillips (left) a $500 check as a donation to the program on Saturday, July 13. Trap shooting is an emerging sport with the IHSA so all the trap teams are on their own to raise money.

Youth Tackle Football is back in Beardstown

After a brief hiatus due to the discontinuation of the program by the Beardstown Park District, youth tackle football is back in Beardstown.  

A group of diehard football fans and parents recently formed the Beardstown Junior Football League and registration is currently under way. Kids entering the 5th and 6th grade this August

Beardstown 9/10 All Stars fall in final eight

Although the season ending loss is always disappointing, a top eight in the State of Illinois finish like the Beardstown 9/10-year-old baseball All-Stars accomplished is something to be proud of. With the Tigers coming agonizingly close to victory in their final two games at State, it may take a little time, but the disappointment will soon fade into truly great memories.
