Wendell D. Harbin

Wendell D. Harbin, 78, Beardstown, died on Sunday February 19, 2023 at his home surrounded by family.

He was born October 26, 1944, in Jacksonville, the son of Roy George and Lorna Henrietta Marie Meyer Harbin. He married Jeanette Lynn on May 20, 1967 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arenzville.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Harbin of Beardstown; a daughter, Wendy (husband Lynn) Yost of Virginia and their children, Jessica (husband Griffin) Patterson and their children, Averie and Nolan, and Jimmy (wife Lucy) Yost and their children, Landon and Natalie; a son, Eric (wife Christi) Harbin of Beardstown and their daughters, Lexi and Laci; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Delores Miller, and three, brothers Kenny, Gilbert, and Vancil Harbin.

Wendell graduated from Triopia High School in the class of 1962 and later honorably served in the United States Army. He was employed with Bohn Aluminum in Beardstown for 23 years, Dour Implement in Virginia, Cargil in Beardstown, and then retired from Beardstown High School maintenance department after 11 years. He was a member of Beardstown Elks Lodge #1007 and First Evangelical Lutheran Church. He enjoyed being outdoors, golfing, hunting, and fishing. He was known to be a shade tree mechanic and spent many hours woodworking and was an avid LA Dodgers and Green Bay Packers fan. Wendell has had a lasting impression on all those who knew him, but his greatest memories will live on in the lives of those who love him the most.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown with Reverend Catherine Burnette officiating. Burial was in Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia with military honors conducted by local Guthrie Pierce VFW Post #1239.
