Wanda May Landes, 95, Rushville, formerly of Beardstown, died at 8:50 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2022 at her daughter’s home in Rushville.
She was born on September 15, 1926 in Browning, the daughter of William Darius and Rose (Workman) Farwell. She first married Robert Calvin Heffren. She later married Dewey Landes on September 28, 1972 in Beardstown. He preceded her in death on June 10, 2007.
She was also preceded in death by five brothers; Dean, Louis, Arthur, Philip and Billy Farwell and three sisters, Ina Curless, Betty Hulvey and Suzanne Farwell.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda (and Gary) McDonald of Rushville; her son, Bob (and Leann) Heffren of Ripley; five grandchildren; Annette (and Stan) Cooley, James (and Diana) McDonald, Bridget Turner, Rachael (and Luke) McGinnis and Kasey (and Lynn) McMillen, 10 great-grandchildren; Chelsea (and Charlie) Erwin, Mackenzie Cooley, Theia McDonald, Nicholas Turner, Alex Turner, Bailey Erwin, Andrew Erwin, Nathaniel Mustread, Haylee Mustread, and Kasey McMillen, Jr., and three great-grandchildren, Mila Miller, Grayson Cooley and Paisley Mustread.
She worked at Capital Records in Jacksonville, for over 35 years. She then worked for the Beardstown School District in the cafeteria.
Wanda was a member of the Beardstown Southern Baptist Church where she taught Bible School for years and sang in the church choir. She loved to fish and hunt arrowheads.
Services were held on Tuesday, July 19th at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Daryl Vermillion officiating. Interment was in the Browning Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee or Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice.
