Virginia Elementary School students have displayed impressive growth in both reading and math, according to Principal Kara Bowman’s report to the Virginia Board of Education on Monday evening.
Standardized testing assessments showed students in all five grades improved their reading and math scores from last fall to this spring.
The spring results revealed that 75 percent of first graders tested at or above their grade level in reading and 69 percent in math. For second grade, it was 52 percent in second grade and 60 percent in math. Third grade was 69 percent in reading and 75 percent in math. Fourth grade was 56 percent in reading and 52 percent in math. Fifth grade was 35 percent in reading and 75 percent in math.
