Vera Eileen Maltby Newman, 68, of Beardstown passed away Saturday, Oct. 31, 2020 at her home.

She was born Feb. 5, 1952, in Beardstown, the daughter of Richard “Bud” and Gladys Bowers Maltby.

She is survived by one son, Kerry Maltby of Bridgeport; one daughter, Gladys Antonio of Beardstown; six grandchildren, Alex Zabuski and Kevin Maltby, both of Beardstown, Kendra Maltby of Virginia, Haley (Joseph, Jr.) Coats, Alley Antonio and Christopher Antonio, all of Beardstown; six great-grandchildren, Lea, Alexis, Gracelyn, Joseph, Connor and Andrew; two brothers, Richard “Dickie” Maltby of Beardstown and Mikey Jo (Cathy) Maltby of Ripley; three sisters, Linda Hare of Murrayville, Ogleama Davis of Jacksonville and Judy Depper of Beardstown; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Rafael Tomas and Maria Eileen; four sisters, Jo Ann Roberts, Betty “Girl” Frazier, Etta “Sauce” Bradley and Anita Gaston; two brothers, Robert “Bobbie” Maltby and James Maltby; and two siblings in infancy.

Mrs. Newman spent most her life caring for others as well as pulling a good prank now and then. Family was everything to Vera and she cherished the time she spent with them.

A memorial visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 6  p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Friends are welcome to sign the register book any time after noon on Wednesday. Due to the current pandemic, attendance will be limited to 25 people at a time and social distancing required.
