Only a bit of trivia this week.

**The largest flagpole in America is 400 feet tall and weighs 420,000 pounds. This is on the grounds of the Acuity Insurance Company between Milwaukee and Green Bay, Wisconsin. The pole is mounted in concrete which has a 10-foot deep foundation and uses 8 foot anchor bolts. It used over 800 gallons of paint to paint the pole which uses a flag that is 60x120 feet. The flag itself weighs 220 pounds. Each star is 3 feet high and each stripe is 4 1/2 feet wide.

**The federal Government which has ‘Tomahawk’ cruise missiles and ‘Apache’, ‘Blackhawk’, ‘Kiowa’, and ‘Lakota’ helicopters, and used the code name ‘Geronimo’ in the attack that killed Osama Bin Laden, officially objects to the name of the Washington Redskins.

**In 1905 11-year-old Frank Epperson invented the popsicle. It was a complete accident. He left a cup of powdered soda, water, and a stirring stick outside on a cold night, and awakened to find one refreshing treat, initially called the Eppisicle. He filed a patent in 1923 and sold rights to a New York Company. Now there are 30 flavors, and hundreds of thousands sold in the United States each year. **Adam Walfre, a long-distance swimmer, saw a shark approaching. He suddenly was surrounded by a pod of 10 dolphins. They apparently were there to save his life. He is busy now raising money to save whales and dolphins.

**The good Lord didn’t create anything without a purpose, but mosquitos come close.

**It won’t be long before Beardstown will open its new swimming pool which is going to be a real asset to the town. While thinking about the new pool, I was told about McMinville, Oregon where a farmer’s cow fell into his new inground swimming pool. It took 10 firemen, a man, and two teenagers to strap up the 800 pound animal and lift it out of the pool.

**The prediction is that the nation will soon face a teacher shortage. In the nation, there has been a 30% decrease from 2000 to 2014.
