Out numbered 117 -1: Standing alone the last of a generation
Here it is, the last of July, and so it was again time for our family reunion. It was John and Mary Elliott who came from Ireland in 1804. They had seven children, one of which was my grandfather, David Hugh Elliott. His wife was Sarah Recraft. They had four children Chester, Joe, Lucy, and my mother Marietta Elliott Roberts. The reunion consists of the descendants of those four Elliott children.
We meet every two years and have been doing this for the past thirty-two years. Last year the reunion was here in Illinois at The Chateau, a castle- like beautiful building which is a hotel in Bloomington-Normal. We try to schedule the reunions near the center of the country as the people will come from twelve states, from California to North Carolina, Minnesota to Georgia, and this year it was held at the large Grizzly Jack’s Resort, approximately a mile from the Starved Rock State Park.
The attendance was 117 and I am the only one living of my generation. During the thirty- two years there have been sixteen who have passed on. However, there have been seventy-six children born during those thirty- two years. The reunion starts on Friday and with so many people flying into Chicago and then renting cars they arrived at different times so the meal Friday night is pizza, to be delivered every hour from 5:30-10:00 p.m. <ahref="http://etypeservices.com/Cass%20County%20Star%20GazetteID497/"><spanstyl... 13px; color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">To view more, please log in or subscribe to the digital edition.</span></a></p>
