Memorial day weekend race
On any Thanksgiving day, people are not far from the dinner table. On any Christmas morning, families are sitting around a Christmas tree surrounded with gifts. On the 4th of July, citizens are looking at fireworks, and on Halloween, houses are greeting trick or treaters.
Holidays can be predictable, but not Memorial Day weekend; not for about 350,000 Indianapolis 500 Race fans; including my son-in-law, Jess Chelette. Work kept him from going to the races earlier in his life, but now that he is retired, he has been able to go to the race the last six years. He and Terry Dossett (Martha Looman’s husband) have been going from Thursday through Sunday. They’ve been sitting in the big grandstand across the track from the row of pits for three years, but that wasn’t enough action. So, for the last three years, their ticket has been seven rows behind the pits. If they want to see more of the race, they can view it on one of the large TV screens.
