Detasseling corn, weeding beans: it’s all different today
Every five or six weeks I go to Springfield to see an eye specialist because of my Macular Degeneration. He gives me a shot in my bad eye in hopes of making it better, and a shot in my good eye to keep it healthy. I can see the landscape on the way to Springfield, but after no less than twelve eye drops and wearing dark glasses, my eyes shut most of the time, I don’t see much on our return trip. On one trip I couldn’t even see the faces of good friends from Beardstown who were also in the doctor’s office and Don had to tell me who was there.
I noticed an advertisement in the local paper during the last part of May in which the Burrus Seed Corn Company was advertising for help. They were wanting students from about six different towns to detassel corn for them. I noted one part of the ad where they would pay a bonus if the person walked. <ahref="http://etypeservices.com/Cass%20County%20Star%20GazetteID497/"><spanstyl... 13px; color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">To view more, please log in or subscribe to the digital edition.</span></a></p>
