Beardstown’s firsts

    When I was much younger and had nothing else to do, I wondered when things began to develop here in Beardstown. I found a lot of “Firsts.” There were a couple of instances where the dates varied, but within a year or two, I think they are correct. I hope you find them interesting.
1819: First Beardstown settler, Thomas Beard, w/Indians.
1819-1888: Tom Beard operated a ferry across the Illinois.
1820: First plot of Beardstown made by Thomas Beard.
1825: First time Beardstown became a village, not a town.
1826: First Preacher in Beardstown, Rev. Reddick Horn.
