Terrance Lee Alloway

Terrance Lee Alloway, 77, of Beardstown passed away peacefully in his sleep at his residence on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2020, with his loyal companion and best friend Maggy at his feet.
Terry was born on Aug. 3, 1943, to Ivan Lee Alloway and Betty Louise Englund Alloway. Both preceded him in death.
At the time of his birth, his father was serving our country in WWII. Shortly after Ivan finished his service in the war, he and Betty welcomed Terry’s younger brother, Stephen Douglas Alloway to the family.
Also preceding Terry in death was a sister who passed away at birth.
Terry was born and raised in Beardstown, graduating from Beardstown Senior High School. Shortly after his 18th birthday, Terry was called to serve his country during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Germany.
After returning from the military, Terry married Teresa Sue Vincent in 1969. From that union, Terry and TeeCee were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Angela Christine Alloway and Teri Jo Alloway Cassady (husband – Jack Cassady II).
Unfortunately, Terry and TeeCee eventually divorced and TeeCee preceded him in death.
Terry was a man of few words, but when he spoke it was worth listening to him. He was stubborn and ornery and enjoyed teasing people that he liked (especially his grandchildren). He was a kind-hearted man who would do anything for a friend, but rarely showed any emotion. Terry was a diverse man with many hobbies. Some of those in his younger days included racing at the drag strips in Beardstown, commercial fishing and boating on the Illinois River in either his flat boat that he built or his jet boat.
Terry had numerous accomplishments in his life including a long career as a carpenter, millwright welder, and general handyman. He could fix or weld anything. He was extremely proud of the fact that he built his own house. He was a longtime member of the carpenters union in Jacksonville and the Beardstown Elks Lodge 1007.
After retirement, Terry enjoyed having an opportunity to relax and just enjoy life. His dog and best friend, Maggy, went everywhere with him, never leaving his side. They enjoyed people-watching around town, watching Gunsmoke, Jag, In the Heat of Night, Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, Match Game and his favorite was Family Feud along with listening to Willys Roadhouse and the Grand Ole Opry in the evenings. However, nothing compared to spending time with his daughter Teri Jo, her husband Jack Cassady II and their children, Morgan Rose Cassady (Matteo Alvarado) and Lauren Louise Cassady (Ty Hamilton). He looked forward to each and every moment he was able to spend with them.
Terry was preceded in death by both parents, paternal and maternal grandparents, two uncles, one niece, and one infant sister.
Surviving are his brother, Steve (Becky) Alloway of Beardstown, two daughters, Angela Christine Alloway of Quincy, Teri Jo Alloway Cassady (Jack Cassady II) of Versailles, two granddaughters, Morgan Rose Cassady (significant other, Matteo Alvarado) of Glen Carbon, IL, Lauren Louise Cassady (significant other, Ty Hamilton) of Versailles and his best friend Maggy, along with several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Terry’s best friend Maggy now has a home with Teri Jo where she will live out her life.
Terry was one of a kind and will be forever missed and loved by all who knew him.
“Rest easy dad! The hard part is over, see you on the other side.” Love always, Teri Jo
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021, at Sager Funeral Home. Family will meet friends from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home. Private burial will be held at a later date at Beardstown City Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Schuyler County Humane Society. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.sagerfuneralhome.com.
