Lady Tigers strike down Vipers

The Beardstown Lady Tiger volleyball team picked up a win last week, knocking off the Vipers of South County on the road in straight sets 25-22, 25-17 last Tuesday.  A great team effort led to an exciting win and brought the girls’ record to 4-12 on the season.  Vanessa Nunez had five aces, 13 assists, 11 digs and a block to lead the way home for BHS.  Shelby Goodrich had 16 digs and a block, Brandy Mendoza had eight kills and eight digs, Bella Palmer and Gracy Hamlin each had four kills, Ashley Salazar had nine digs and Alora Logan had four assists in the win.

It was a rough week for the BHS Varsity Volleyball team as they lost all three matches in straight sets to fall to 3-11 on the season. At home last Monday against a very good Illini West team, the Tigers lost 25-11, 25-14.  Shelby Goodrich, Ashley Salazar and Gracy Hamlin all had a kill, Goodrich, Hamlin, and Brandy Mendoza each had an ace, Mendoza had a block, Alora Logan, Mendoza, and Mia Playan all had three digs and Vanessa Nunez had three digs and three assists.

PORTA/A-C Volleyball gets two wins

The PORTA-AC Lady Bluejay Volleyball team won twice at home to push their season mark to 7-3.  

Against a solid New Berlin Pretzel team, the Lady Jays snuck away with a straight set victory by scores of 25-21, 25-22.  PORTA-AC had an easier time with Springfield Lutheran, winning 25-18, 25-13.  In that one, Mikaela Clary had five kills, four aces and five digs to lead the way.  Karlie Hoke added three kills and seven aces, Carson Arthalony had three kills and two blocks, Cassie Cox had four kills and one block.  Jayce Privia had nine digs, Chloe Maltby had seven digs and Caitlyn DeFreezer had 11 assists for the winners.

After two years of post-shutdown rebuilding, Beardstown Christian Academy (BCA) has once again put a high school volleyball team on the court. The focus on building up a new team over the last couple years have come to fruit. The BCA team will be traveling to and hosting several area schools, both public and private, to play a busy schedule. BCA Administrator, Jim Bormann stated, “This effort is all about the kids. Beardstown Christian Academy has a high school volleyball team again!

After two years of post-shutdown rebuilding, Beardstown Christian Academy (BCA) has once again put a high school volleyball team on the court. BHS Volleyball JV Consolation Champs at Mendon Tournament

The Beardstown Lady Tiger Varsity Volleyball team split a pair of games last week while the Junior Varsity squad traveled to the Mendon JV Tournament last Saturday and came home as Consolation Champs.  The JV Lady Tigers lost to Augusta 7-25 and 15-25 to open the tournament but bounced back to beat Rushville-Industry 25-21 and 25-17 and then beat Brown County 25-19, 14-25, and 15-12.  Lauren Coats led the Tiger offense with nine kills on the day.  Alora Logan ran the offense and handed out 18 assists while Autumn Bowman and Mia Playan led the way defensively with 13 digs and 10 digs respectively.  Coach Emily Riddle summed up the day succinctly stating, “Great team effort on the day for the Lady Tigers!”

Lady Trojans continue winning ways

The entire Triopia-Virginia Lady Trojan volleyball program remained unbeaten  A  JV tie is the only blemish on the program’s record as the varsity ended last week with a 9-0 mark and the JV is 11-0-1.  A nice win over WIVC rival Brown County started things for the varsity Trojans as they won 25-23; 15-25; 25-18.  Chelsea Bell had one service point, one ace, 11 kills, four blocks and one dig, Lucie Dion had three points, two kills, two blocks, 12 assists, and 14 digs, Lindy Parlier had nine points, two aces, one kill, seven assists, and five digs, and Mylee Tracy had 19 points, five aces, five kills, one assist, and seven digs.

Lady Trojans win Meredosia Tourney

The varsity and JV volleyball teams for Triopia-Virginia-Meredosia-Chambersburg won first place at last week’s Meredosia tournament. The varsity finished the tournament undefeated at 5-0 and the JV finished 4-0-1, splitting with South County. Chelsea Bell, Lucie Dion, and Mylee Tracy were selected to the Varsity All-Tournament team from the Lady Trojans.

BHS volleyball at Augusta Tourney

The BHS Volleyball squad spent last week driving to Augusta for the Southeastern Tournament and what started with a bang faded quickly with three straight losses to end the week. The Lady Tigers’ record now stands at 2-6 on the season.

PORTA/A-C Volleyball starts 4-3

The PORTA-AC Central high school volleyball team has started the 2023 season with a 4 and 3 record going 2-3 in the very competitive Springfield Lutheran Invite.  

The Lady Bluejays opened the season with a two-set road win over Lewistown, knocking off the Indians 25-23 and 25-18.  At the Lutheran Invite, the Jays started with a tough three-set loss to class 3A Chatham Glenwood, losing 25-21, 21-25, 13-15.
