The Virginia-Triopia Junior High Girls Basketball team practice their shooting using the new Dr. Dish basketball machine the program purchased this season. The team would like to thank all of the community members, as well as the Virginia and Triopia Boosters for their generous donations. With this, current and future Lady Redbirds will be able to develop their skill level in order to be successful.

 Three wins last week for the Virginia-Triopia seventh grade girls basketball team pushed their record to over .500 for the season at 10-8.  A couple of tough losses for the eighth-grade squad dropped their record to 10-7 on the year.

Virginia welcomes a new boutique

Virginia is proud to welcome another new business to the community. Creekside Boutique & Coffee Company held their grand opening on Friday the 27th. The business, located on the north side of the square, is owned by Sara Beth Fanning and will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.

Three wins for Lady Redbirds – Virginia-Triopia Junior High Basketball

It was a good week for the Virginia-Triopia Junior High Girls’ Basketball team as they picked up three wins out of four games between the seventh and eighth grade teams. The younger Birds knocked off Griggsville-Perry 36-21 and lost to Brown County 32-11 to bring their record to 7-8 on the year.

High School volleyball roundup – Beardstown, PORTA/A-C, Triopia results

All three Cass County high school volleyball teams finished up their regular seasons last week and will be competing in regionals this week.  

   Beardstown wrapped up their season with two home matches. On Monday, the Tigers fell in a tough three set match to West Central 25-17, 19-25, 18-25. Against a talented Brown County team on Thursday in the Annual Volley for the Cure match, the Tigers treated a nice crowd to a good comeback in game two but fell in straight sets 15-25, 22-25. Beardstown, now 9-25 on the season and seeded 11th in the regional, was scheduled to take on the 5th seeded Macomb Bombers at their place on October 23 to open postseason play.

Arenzville: October 31 - Town Trick or Treat, 6:00-8:00 p.m. | Ashland: October 29 -  Halloween Parade lineup starts at 3:00 p.m. and will go from Editor Street to the Fire House followed by Trunk or Treat on Yates Street in front of City Hall.

Lady Redbird Basketball action

The Virginia-Triopia Lady Redbird junior high basketball teams hosted their own tournament last week with both the 7th and 8th grade winning one game and losing two.  

Congratulations go out to Hallie Clement and Kenzie Meyer for winning awards at the tournament.  Hallie was selected to the six-person 7th grade All-Tournament Team and Kenzie was selected for the 8th grade Defensive/Team Leader award.

Ayers celebrates 90 years

Peggy Ayers of Virginia, IL will be 90 years young on October 31st, 2023

She was born in Bloomfield, Missouri. She married Willis Ayers on August 14th, 1948. They became the parents of three children: Patricia (Kevin) McLaughlin, Terry (Marcia) Ayers and Amy (Steve) Theivagt. The family grew to five granddaughters, 11 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
