Triopia Junior High Basketball

The Triopia Junior High Basketball teams continued to add to an already impressive resume with five wins out of six games last week.  The eighth grade swept all three of their games while the seventh grade lost to Hardin Calhoun but defeated North Mac and Carrollton St. Johns.

Trojans top Tornadoes at Waverly

The Triopia Trojan boys’ basketball team picked up a win in the first round of the Waverly Tournament then ran up against two tough WIVC Conference foes to bow out with a 1-2 record. The Trojans used a huge third quarter in the opener to pull away from Tri-City and win 59 to 46. A poor third quarter hurt the Trojans in their 58 to 30 second round loss to West Central. The final quarter was the difference in their tourney ending 44 to 32 loss to Greenfield-Northwestern.

Saukees bring down Trojans

In their only contest last week, the Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia boys’ basketball team lost at home to the Pittsfield Saukees.  The loss broke a three-game winning streak and dropped the Trojans to 5-6 on the season.

A couple of tough losses on the road at Mendon were quickly put in the rearview mirror by the Triopia Junior High basketball team with two resounding home wins over Havana.  

Against Unity in the seventh-grade game, the Colts jumped out of the gate and took a 13 to 0 lead after a quarter.  It was 23 to 7 at the half in favor of Mendon.  The Colts continued to stretch the lead in the second half and cruised to a 38 to 17 win.  Werries scored four, while Howe, Seymour and Lomelino all scored three and Crews added two points in the loss.

Big week for young Trojans

Both the 7th and 8th grade Triopia boys’ basketball teams swept their way to three wins in three games last week.  The young Trojans beat Pleasant Hill, Beardstown, and Rushville/Industry.  The 7th grade is now 9-4 on the year while the 8th grade sits at 11-3 for the season.

Trojan Boys Win Two

They were two starkly different contests last week but they both resulted in victory for the Triopia Trojan basketball team.  On Tuesday, the Trojans turned on their afterburners and raced to a 72 to 41 win over the Payson-Seymour Indians on the road.  At home on Friday, the Trojans ground out a low scoring 41 to 30 victory over the Carrollton Hawks.

Trojan Boys crush Eagles

The Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia Trojans dropped a tough WIVC game at arch-rival Routt to open last week then came back to blast the Liberty Eagles on Friday at home.  

At the Routt dome, the Rockets slowly pulled away from the Trojans to pick up a 43 to 32 victory.  Routt led 13 to 7 after a quarter and 23 to 13 at the half.  They made it 37 to 25 after three quarters then took the air out of the ball in the fourth, allowing the Trojans to cut into the lead by just a single digit in the low

Young Trojans stop OSS – Triopia Jr High Basketball results

Both the seventh and eighth grade Triopia boys’ basketball teams picked up wins last week against Our Savior School of Jacksonville.

Trojans crush Rockets

It was a good week for the Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia Trojan high school boys’ basketball team as they completely dismantled the Rushville-Industry Rockets on the road to start the week, winning 61 to 35.  And although some say there is no such thing as a good loss, Coach Rich Thompson had to be happy with his team’s performance, except their free throw shooting, in a close 36 to 29 loss to a highly regarded Camp Point team at home on Saturday.

Junior High Basketball Action – B’town, Triopia & Virginia Results

Due to the holiday, each of the area Junior High basketball teams played only one game last week.  Beardstown Tigers: Beardstown played on the road at Rushville on Monday with both teams dropping a tough one. The 7th graders trailed 8 to 7 after a quarter and 13 to 9 at the half before cutting the deficit to just one at 17 to 16 after three quarters. The Rockets would outscore the young Tigers 6 to 2 in the final frame to take the win 23 to 18.
