Coach Rich Thompson has announced the date for the Annual Golf Outing Fundraiser for the Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia high school baseball and basketball teams. The event will be held on Saturday June 22 at the Jacksonville Links Golf Course with a shotgun start at 1:00 p.m. It will be a 4-person scramble format. To reserve a team, purchase a hole sponsorship or for any other questions contact coach Thompson at (217) 370-9086. All proceeds will benefit the Trojan boys’ baseball and basketball programs.
Four Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia athletes were recently named All-Conference performers by the Western Illinois Valley Conference.
Mylee Tracy and Addison Rohn were both named to the ten-person First Team All-Conference softball team. The Lady Trojan’s Lucie Dion was one of ten named Second Team All-Conference. All three girls are juniors.
For the boys, sophomore Grant Fricke was named to the nine-person Second Team All-Conference baseball squad.
The track and field season ended for the Virginia-Meredosia-Triopia track teams last week.
For the girls, Mylee Tracy represented Redbird nation very well at the Class 1A IHSA State Track and Field Championships. Tracy qualified in both the 200 meters and the 400 meters and traveled to Charleston for preliminaries last Thursday. The top nine finishers in the prelims advanced to the finals and ninth place came in with a time of 26.12 in the 200 meters. Tracy’s time of 26.6 was good enough for 15th place. In the 400 meters, ninth place had a time of 59.24. Mylee’s time of 103.78 put her in 24th place.
It looked like the Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia softball team had Havana right where they wanted them and would get sweet revenge for a post season loss to the Ducks last year. Unfortunately, a five-run seventh inning by the Ducks stunned the Trojans and gave Havana a 5 to 2 Regional Championship victory last Friday night.
The Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia baseball team fought their way to the Regional Title game but fell short to a very good Jacksonville Routt team, losing 11 to 2. The Trojans reached the title game by beating a good Brown County team 6 to 1 in the regional opener. Triopia finished 11-18 on the season.
The Triopia-Virginia-Meredosia baseball team picked up one win against two losses last week to end the regular season with a record of 10-16. They opened the week with a tight 2 to 0 loss to PORTA-AC, then got a nice 4 to 0 win over New Berlin in ten innings then fell flat in the season finale, losing to Pittsfield 15 to 0.
