The Beardstown Middle School Wrestling Team hosted their first home meet of the season last Thursday and swept the contest. They slipped past Auburn 47 to 33 and crushed the Havana Ducks 72 to 24 to move to 8-2 on the season. The Beardstown Tiger Wrestling team capped a busy week and the calendar year by participating in the prestigious Abe’s Rumble in Springfield. Earlier in the week the Tigers competed in a girls meet at Jacksonville and a Junior Varsity match at Springfield Southeast.
Layla Garcia and Daisy Gil took to the mats for the Lady Tigers in the very first Jacksonville Girls’ Tourney and had a very good day. Daisy finished in Fourth Place at 120 pounds while Layla won the Consolation Championship at 135 pounds.
For the first time in several years the Beardstown Tigers played on the fourth and final day of the Williamsville Holiday Tournament. The Tigers rebounded from a tough opening round loss to Delavan to beat Deer Creek Mackinaw and Illini Central and earn a birth in the Consolation Championship game. Beardstown ran completely out of gas in their fourth game in four days in the championship tilt and fell badly to Tremont.

The second halves of games last week were very, very good to the Beardstown boys’ basketball team. The first halves, well, not so much.
Beardstown trailed Abingdon-Avon (A-Town) 31 to 25 at the half and came roaring back to win 64 to 45 at home on Tuesday.
In their final game before a long Christmas break, the Beardstown Junior High boys’ basketball teams dropped a pair of games to Camp Point Central.

On Monday at Macomb, the Bomber seventh grade squad knocked off the Tigers 44 to 24. Beardstown fell behind early, 12 to 3 after a quarter and fought hard to stay in the game in the second quarter as the lead was 22 to 11 at the half. A tough third quarter put the Tigers down 32 to 13 heading to the final frame. Beardstown did get six guys in the scoring column with DeWade Gaffney netting seven, Ashten Guzman scoring six, Brayden Piotrowski and Tucker Sorrells each notching four, Oliver Davis getting two and Uriel Gil hitting a free throw for one. Individual scoring was not available for the eighth-grade game, but the Tigers took it on the chin by a score of 39 to 13.
The Beardstown Tiger wrestling team hosted a triangular meet last Thursday and lost two close matches to Pittsfield and Macomb.
Against the Saukees, Pittsfield prevailed over the Tigers by a score of 40 to 30. Winning Beardstown wrestlers were Luis De La Cruz by fall at 0:43 at 138 pounds and Maddox Medrano by fall at 1:19 at 144 pounds.
The Beardstown Tigers took to the road last week to play a couple of West Central Conference games and picked up two victories over Liberty and Brown County. The wins give the hometown hoopsters a conference record of 2-1 and an overall mark of 8-2.
In a Cass County rivalry game last Tuesday, it was the Beardstown Tigers going on the road to Ashland to defeat PORTA-AC Central 53 to 45, giving coach Eric Anderson his first career victory over the Bluejays.
On Thursday, the Tigers hosted Camp Point in a girl-boy double dip and lost to the highly regarded Panthers 52 to 39, the exact same score as Beardstown’s only other loss this year to West Central. BHS is now 6-2 on the season.
