Perfect Week for Lady Trojans

The Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia softball team took full advantage of the good weather last week, by going a perfect 5 and 0 to run their season record to 8-3.

They started things off by pounding Brown County in Mt. Sterling 18 to 2.  Mylee Tracy gave up just two hits and struck out nine in the five inning blow out. Addison Rohn had two hits and three RBIs and Gabby Myers had two hits and two RBIs.  Lindy Parlier, Rhianna Lovekamp, and Rilyn Waid all added a base hit in the win.

Errors haunt Lady Tiger Softball

A young Beardstown Tiger softball team continues to struggle to field the ball on defense with an avalanche of errors leading to four losses last weekend in their own Lady Tiger Showcase at Rice and Jones Fields at Roy Roberts Park.

Lady Trojans breeze by Tornadoes

With the spring weather wreaking havoc on the schedule, the Triopia-Meredosia-Virgnia softball team was only able to get one game in last week. Even that game was played through a tornado.

The Griggsville-Perry Tornadoes that is, as the Trojans blew them out 12 to 1 to even their record at 3-3 on the season.  Triopia bolted to an early lead, scoring four in the first and five in the second before the Tornadoes scored their only run in the top of the third. Triopia added one in the third and two in the fourth to finish it off in five innings. Mylee Tracy went the distance on the hill giving up three hits, walking

Branson tosses perfect game  – Lady Bluejays crush Hawks

The PORTA-AC Central Lady Bluejay softball team and senior pitcher Gabbie Branson certainly made the most of their only opportunity to play last week.

Branson tossed her first career perfect game as the Lady Jays destroyed the Riverton Hawks 18 to 0 at Riverton.  Branson struck out ten batters in her four-inning perfecto, while also going 1 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs scored.  PORTA-AC had just seven hits but took advantage of fifteen free passes from the Hawk pitching staff.

Third baseman Cami Coats makes a play right down the line for the Lady Tigers.

Lady Tigers sneak by Cougars

The Beardstown Lady Tigers softball team sandwiched a couple of great games around a real stinker last week, winning one and losing two to fall to 2-6 on the season.

Beardstown won in exciting fashion at home on Wednesday with a walk off victory in the bottom of the seventh over West Central. They were shut out on Thursday at home by Pleasant Plains then lost a heartbreaker in eight innings on Saturday at Jacksonville.

Trojan Baseball and Softball action

With the typically unpredictable spring weather in Illinois causing cancellations left and right, the Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia varsity ball teams have not been spared, but they did get some action in last week. Both teams traveled to Carrollton last Thursday and lost to the Hawks.  The boys hosted the Athens Warriors on Friday and dropped that one also to fall to 2-6 on the season. The Lady Trojans record sits at 2-3.

Lady Bluejays flying high

The PORTA-AC Central softball team continued their impressive play, moving to 8-2 on the season with three wins in four games last week. The Lady Bluejays won a tight one, 4 to 2 on the road at Taylorville last Wednesday. They played host to Rochester, Warrenburg-Latham, and Liberty in the Bluejays Spring Slam at the University of Illinois-Springfield on Saturday. They lost 5-0 to the Rockets but knocked off the Cardinals 8 to 0 and the Eagles 17 to 4.

Lady Trojans low on numbers, not expectations

Despite having just thirteen players and one senior Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia Head Softball Coach Ty Gebhardt likes what he has going on with this year’s Lady Trojan squad. Along with Assistant Coaches Kristy Gebhardt, Dean Werries, and Jeff Bennett, he will have to replace some very talented players from last year’s 15-12 team, but he feels as though he has plenty of talent to do so.

Defense key for Lady Tigers

Third year Head Softball Coach Kaitlyn Dodson expects the Beardstown Lady Tiger defense to be a strong point of this year’s squad. Coming off a nice 19-12 season last year, following an un-Lady Tiger-like 12-15 season in 2021-2022, Dodson will have to replace several key pieces from last year’s team. She will have an oddly constructed roster at her disposal to do so, as the Tigers are comprised of only juniors and sophomores with no seniors or freshman.

Lady Jays are on the rise

With their top three hitters and their top pitcher returning from last year’s 16-13 team, the PORTA-AC Central Lady Bluejays are looking to take the next step forward this season. Fourth year Coach Andrew Biermann (39-33 overall record) and asistants Mike Logsdon and Kassidy Johnson are hoping to improve on a 4-4 record and fifth place finish in the Sangamon Conference, push towards the twenty-win mark and make some postseason noise.
