Trojans slay Wolves

The Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia baseball team shut out the Pleasant Hill Wolves but lost to the Routt Rockets last week to move their season record to 6-13.  

On Monday at home, the Trojans scored a run in the bottom of the first against Jacksonville Routt but did not score again in a 7 to 1 loss. The Rockets took the lead for good with four in the second and added three in the seventh to sew it up. The big blue had just five hits with Jacob Cook and Gameli White having two each and Cooper Parrish having one and driving in the only run. Brock York walked and scored for the Trojans.

Virginia-Triopia-Meredosia Jr/Sr High School Track results 

High School Track

It was a busy week for the Virginia-Meredosia-Triopia high school track team with three meets last week.  

On Monday the Redbirds hosted North Greene and Carrolton in a triangular with the girls winning the meet and the boys placing third. Faith Wingert placed second in the 100 and the 200 and fourth in the high jump, TaShia Allen was third in the 100 and second in the shot put, Payten Petefish was third in the 200 and second in the triple jump, Keylie Degroot won the 400 and the 800, Kaylee Beck won the 1600 and the 3200, Adelea Anderson was second in the 1600 and the 300 hurdles, Ashton Stanberry won the 110 and the 300 hurdles, Olivia Hughes placed second in the 110 hurdles, Olivia Lutrell was third in the discus and fourth in the shot put, Marilyn Behrends was second in the high jump, and Ava Petefish won the long jump and the triple jump.

The Virginia-Meredosia-Triopia varsity track teams participated in the very competitive Rob Garcia Invitational last week at Rushville with the girls placing ninth out of fifteen teams and the boys finishing fourteenth out of fourteen.

Tough losses for Lady Trojans

The Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia softball team saw their six-game winning streak snapped last week, dropping two tough contests to quality opponents. The Lady Trojans fell 11 to 6 to a sixteen-win Hardin Calhoun team on Monday then fell to a ten-win Pittsfield squad 4 to 2 on Friday. Triopia is now 8-5 on the season.

Bell propels Trojans over Warriors

Evan Bell hit a double to drive in Brock York and Grant Fricke in the third inning and propel the Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia baseball team past the Calhoun Warriors 2 to 1 in a Western Illinois Valley Conference game. The weather limited the Trojans to just one game last week and the win improved their record to 5-12 on the season.

Virginia-Meredosia-Triopia High School track results

The Virginia-Meredosia-Triopia High School track teams competed in two meets last week.  On Monday the boys placed eighth out of nine teams and the girls placed third out of eight teams at the Tom Johnson Invitational at Pittsfield. Jack Parlier placed fourth in the high jump, Brady Seymour took sixth in the high jump and seventh in the shot put, Braden Hutson was sixth in the long jump and Cristian Provo placed seventh in the triple jump. Ta’Shia Allen was second in the 100 meters, Faith Wingert was third in the 100 and second in the 200, Ava Petefish was first in the triple jump, third in the long jump and second in the 400 meters, Payten Petefish was fourth in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump and the 200 meters, Ashton Stanberry placed third in the 300 hurdles and fourth in the 100 hurdles and Kaylee Beck was third in the 3200 and sixth in the 1600. The 4x100 relay team of Wingert, Stanberry, Ava Petefish and Allen won their race.

Perfect Week for Lady Trojans

The Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia softball team took full advantage of the good weather last week, by going a perfect 5 and 0 to run their season record to 8-3.  

They started things off by pounding Brown County in Mt. Sterling 18 to 2.  Mylee Tracy gave up just two hits and struck out nine in the five inning blow out. Addison Rohn had two hits and three RBIs and Gabby Myers had two hits and two RBIs.  Lindy Parlier, Rhianna Lovekamp, and Rilyn Waid all added a base hit in the win.

Tough losses for Trojan Baseball

It was a rough week for the Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia baseball team as they suffered four losses against just one win.  Two of the losses were by one run, they were allowed just one hit in the third loss and had only two hits in the last one.

Redbird Jr High Track

The Virginia-Triopia Junior High Track teams had a very successful week placing first in the girls’ seventh grade, eighth grade and combined and first in the boys eighth grade and combined and second in seventh grade at Camp Point on Monday. On Tuesday, at the St. Agnes meet they placed second in all but the boys combined where they placed third.

Lady Trojans breeze by Tornadoes

With the spring weather wreaking havoc on the schedule, the Triopia-Meredosia-Virgnia softball team was only able to get one game in last week. Even that game was played through a tornado. 

The Griggsville-Perry Tornadoes that is, as the Trojans blew them out 12 to 1 to even their record at 3-3 on the season.  Triopia bolted to an early lead, scoring four in the first and five in the second before the Tornadoes scored their only run in the top of the third. Triopia added one in the third and two in the fourth to finish it off in five innings. Mylee Tracy went the distance on the hill giving up three hits, walking
