In their final game before a long Christmas break, the Beardstown Junior High boys’ basketball teams dropped a pair of games to Camp Point Central.

Redbirds split with Lewistown

The Virginia Redbird junior high basketball teams split a pair of games with Lewistown last week, losing a heartbreaker in the seventh-grade contest.  

Virginia was in command of the opener until the final frame, taking a 6 to 1 lead after one quarter and a 17 to 7 lead at the half.  An eight all tie in the third quarter left the lead at ten at 25 to 15 going into the fourth.  That’s when the wheels came off for the Redbirds and the Indians rallied to outscore them 14 to 3 to win 29 to 28.  Paxton P. had nine points, Tylan C., and Cooper L. each had six, Dace M. had five and David B. had two in the very tough loss.

Triopia Junior High hoops

A couple of tough losses on the road at Mendon were quickly put in the rearview mirror by the Triopia Junior High basketball team with two resounding home wins over Havana.  

Against Unity in the seventh-grade game, the Colts jumped out of the gate and took a 13 to 0 lead after a quarter.  It was 23 to 7 at the half in favor of Mendon.  The Colts continued to stretch the lead in the second half and cruised to a 38 to 17 win.  Werries scored four, while Howe, Seymour and Lomelino all scored three and Crews added two points in the loss.

Big week for young Trojans

Both the 7th and 8th grade Triopia boys’ basketball teams swept their way to three wins in three games last week.  The young Trojans beat Pleasant Hill, Beardstown, and Rushville/Industry.  The 7th grade is now 9-4 on the year while the 8th grade sits at 11-3 for the season.

Facing two tough teams last week, the Beardstown junior high boys’ basketball teams lost all four contests.

On Monday at Macomb, the Bomber seventh grade squad knocked off the Tigers 44 to 24.  Beardstown fell behind early, 12 to 3 after a quarter and fought hard to stay in the game in the second quarter as the lead was 22 to 11 at the half.  A tough third quarter put the Tigers down 32 to 13 heading to the final frame.  Beardstown did get six guys in the scoring column with DeWade Gaffney netting seven, Ashten Guzman scoring six, Brayden Piotrowski and Tucker Sorrells each notching four, Oliver Davis getting two and Uriel Gil hitting a free throw for one.  Individual scoring was not available for the eighth-grade game, but the Tigers took it on the chin by a score of 39 to 13.

The Virginia Redbirds’ junior high basketball team made the most of their one opportunity on the hardwood last week, sweeping to a pair of victories over the North Greene Spartans.

Both the seventh and eighth grade Triopia boys’ basketball teams picked up wins last week against Our Savior School of Jacksonville.

Tough week for Junior High Tigers

The Beardstown Junior High School boys’ basketball teams had a tough week, losing both games resoundingly to Pleasant Plains at home then dropping two tough ones on the road at Havana.  The seventh grade lost 54 to 17 to Plains and 26 to 20 to Havana while the eighth grade fell 44 to 9 to the Cardinals and 32 to 13 to the Ducks.

The Virginia Redbirds were able to outfly the Eagles of Liberty last week but were no match for the Cougars of Illini Central.  The seventh grade Birds knocked off Liberty 44 to 19 while the eighth-grade squad won 35 to 19.
