Lady Trojans sustain two losses

The letters S and F spelled bad news last week for the Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia girls basketball team as the Trojans lost to South Fulton and South Fork to fall to 11-12 on the year.

The week started with a disappointing 54 to 48 loss to a 5-19 South Fulton team at home.  The Rebels led all the way, but the second quarter was the difference in the game.  It was 15 to 13 in favor of South Fulton after one quarter which they expanded to a 37 to 23 lead at the half. The Lady Trojans cut the deficit to 48 to 37 after three quarters and fought hard in the fourth but fell just a little short. One high note for Triopia was nine players getting on the scoreboard. Mylee Tracy led the way with eleven.  Ava Petefish had nine, Gabby Myers had seven, Addison Rohn had six, Lucie Dion had five, Eve Crawford had four and Raye Greenstreet and Lilly Pate each had two.

Lady Tigers take home two wins

The Beardstown Lady Tigers won twice last week against familiar foes to improve to 11-12 on the season.  They knocked off Pleasant Hill for the second time this year last Thursday at home on senior night, 31 to 26, as both teams were as cold as the weather.  On Saturday they opened play in the Carrollton Lady Hawks Invitational with a convincing 65 to 38 pounding of Payson-Seymour, their third victory over the Indians this season.

Lady Trojans lose two

The Lady Trojans of Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia lost both games last week, including a conference game to fall to 1-4 in the WIVC and 11-10 overall on the season.  In a strange twist of the schedule, the Lady Trojans faced the same two teams last week that they had played the week before in the North Greene Tournament, losing to Hardin Calhoun and home and falling to South County on the road.

Trojans swat Hornets

The Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia boys basketball team split a pair of Western Illinois Valley Conference games last week, winning over rival Brown County and falling to highly ranked West Central.  The Trojans move to 8-10 overall and 3-2 in the conference heading into their own Varsity/JV tournament this week.

Lady Trojans take third place

The Triopia-Meredosia-Chambersburg-Virginia Lady Trojan basketball squad brought home the Third-Place plaque from the North Greene Tournament last week. In an odd bit of symmetry, the Trojans won their opener 37 to 29 over Greenfield-Northwestern (GNW) then fell in the semifinals by an identical 37 to 29 score to Hardin Calhoun. In the third-place game, Triopia outlasted South County 44 to 40.

Lady Bluejays

Lady Bluejays are on fire

The PORTA-AC Central Lady Bluejays stayed red hot and moved to 14-0 on the season with three wins in the Riverton Christmas Tournament last week.  PORTA-AC destroyed Litchfield and Pana then defeated North Mac by twelve points, their closest game in a month.

Losing streak for Lady Tigers

The Beardstown Lady Tiger basketball team is hoping to use the Christmas Holiday to regroup and then get hot and make a run in the Lady Tiger Classic.

The break comes at just the right time for BHS as they are on a five-game losing streak and have already played seventeen games just thirty-eight days into the season.  Road losses to Brown County and Williamsville and a home defeat at the hands of Quincy Notre Dame has dropped the Lady Tigers below .500 on the season with eight wins and nine losses.

Lady Trojans bring home two wins

Two wins for the Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia girls basketball team last week over Payson-Seymour and Liberty pushed their record to 7-4 as they prep for this week’s Lady Tiger Classic.  The Lady Trojans made a second half push to defeat the Indians 48 to 29 and held on in the fourth to beat the Eagles 40 to 36.

41st Annual Lady Tiger Classic

For the 41st time since 1982 (the tourney was cancelled due to COVID in 2020) Beardstown will host the Beardstown Lady Tiger Classic girls’ basketball tournament over Christmas break.  It will tip off on Tuesday, December 26.  Twenty-four teams will be in town and over 40 games will be played in two gyms over four days.  Havana and West Prairie will get things started bright and early at 9:00 a.m. in the middle school gym, while action in the high school gym tips off at 9:30 a.m. with Illini Central taking on Roanoke-Benson.  The Rockets, from just northeast of Peoria, are new to the tourney this year, taking the place of another Rocket team, Jacksonville Routt, who surprisingly cancelled their season due to a lack of players.

Lady Tigers and Lady Trojans lose

It was a light load for both the Beardstown Lady Tiger and the Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia Lady Trojan basketball teams with just one game each last week.  Beardstown hosted North Fulton on Monday.  Triopia, who went on the road to Carrollton on Monday, was scheduled to play Calhoun on Thursday but the contest was postponed.
