Beardstown Cross Country

On Tuesday, September 26, the Beardstown Middle School Cross Country team traveled to Liberty to run in the Liberty invite.  The boys’ team took fifth place and the girls’ team brought home tenth place. On the very tough Liberty course, several athletes were able to clinch a new personal best. Elsa DeWitt shaved thirteen seconds off her two-mile run.  Jomary Rodriuez shaved 1:27 off her previous best.  Liam Hymes finished his race 13 seconds faster than his best time, placing 14th and earning another medal.  Oscar Cortes cut 27 seconds off his previous best race time. Santiago Quintana was 29 seconds faster, John Haverback shaved 12 seconds off his time, Uriel Torrijos-Gil was 42 seconds faster than his best time. According to Coach Kelly, “all in all, the athletes did a great job representing the Beardstown Tigers on a tough course.”

Beardstown Cross Country results

Both the Beardstown High School and Middle School Cross Country teams were on the course competing last week.  

On Monday, September 18, the middle school team traveled to Petersburg-PORTA to run in the Big 5 Conference Meet. The girls finished in 5th Place as a team, while the boys were able to finish in 2nd Place as a team.

BHS & BJHS Cross Country action

On Thursday, September 14, the Beardstown Middle School and High School cross country teams hosted their only home meet of the year.  

Eighth graders and Seniors were recognized between the middle school and high school races.  Seniors Emma Ford-DeWitt, Ashley Gil, and Karim Gomez and eighth graders, Oscar Cortes, Jack DeWitt, Lucy Harrison, Liam Hymes and Jared Montoya were recognized.  

Coach Jacki Kelly commented, “the three seniors will be missed next year, but best of luck to all the athletes as they finish out their cross-country seasons.”

Beardstown Middle School and High School Cross Country

The BHS Cross Country teams continue to rack up medals and personal bests on both the high school and junior high level.   On August 28 the Middle School team traveled to Havana to run at Veterans Park.  On a great night of running, all the athletes set new personal bests.  The boys took 2nd place as a team and the girls finished 4th.  Liam Hymes and Elsa DeWitt both earned medals.
