BHS Track and Field Awards

The Beardstown girls’ and boys’ track and field teams recognized several athletes at the season ending awards banquet.

According to girls’ coach Jacki Kelly, “this season the girls track team finished with 14 athletes. The girls had a great season, with individuals bringing home hardware from every medal meet we competed in. Although we were bumped to 2A, the girls tied for 10th place out of 16 teams at sectionals. They were a team of fourteen girls competing with schools that had rosters with up to seventy-five athletes.”

Title game heartbreaker for Lady Tigers soccer

Playing in their first ever Regional Championship Game, the Beardstown Lady Tiger Soccer team lost a heartbreaker.

On the road last Saturday at Monmouth-Roseville against the host Titans, Beardstown lost 1 to 0.  In a classic defensive battle, neither team could dent the net until a late penalty kick from the Titans gave them the game’s only goal and a trip to the Sectional game at Williamsville.  Monmouth-Roseville improved to 13-4-3 with the win.

Walk off loss ends Lady Tiger season

A tough season for a young Beardstown Softball team ended with another heartbreaking walk off loss.

The Lady Tigers fell to Macomb in the opening game of the regional as the Bombers scored in the bottom of the seventh to win 4 to 3. It was the third straight time the girls lost in walk off fashion and the sixth time on the year. Beardstown finished 8-21 on the year but won four of their last six and with any kind of luck in close games could have won several more.

Tigers drop three

It was not the way coach Brian Dour or Beardstown wanted to end the regular season as the Tigers dropped three straight games last week by ten plus runs each to end the regular season on a four-game losing streak. The losses, against three quality teams, dropped the Tigers to 9-14 on the season. They will look to rebound in regional play where they were scheduled to open at QND on Monday, May 13.

Winning streak for Lady Tigers

It was a busy and productive last week of the season for the Beardstown softball team as they matched their total wins from the rest of the year by winning four straight games. Improved defense was the key as the Tigers committed just twelve errors in five games, a number they have come close to matching in single games several times this year. They would drop their final game of the week last Saturday to finish the regular season at 8-20. The Lady Tigers were scheduled to begin regional play on Monday, May 13 at Macomb.
