On October 16, they traveled to Emiquon to run in the Havana meet.  Diana Huerta and Rosalba Quintana each ran a new personal best and brought home a medal with Diana placing 4th and Rosalba placing 10th.  Ashley Gil also ran a season best to finish 13th, Emma Ford-Dewitt finished 15th and Emely Martinez ran a new personal best for the season.

High School volleyball roundup – Beardstown, PORTA/A-C, Triopia results

All three Cass County high school volleyball teams finished up their regular seasons last week and will be competing in regionals this week.

Beardstown wrapped up their season with two home matches. On Monday, the Tigers fell in a tough three set match to West Central 25-17, 19-25, 18-25. Against a talented Brown County team on Thursday in the Annual Volley for the Cure match, the Tigers treated a nice crowd to a good comeback in game two but fell in straight sets 15-25, 22-25. Beardstown, now 9-25 on the season and seeded 11th in the regional, was scheduled to take on the 5th seeded Macomb Bombers at their place on October 23 to open postseason play.

The Tigers look to have the option play set up well but a fast Calhoun defense closed quickly in Beardstown’s loss to the Warriors.

Warriors End Tigers’ Football Season – BHS Falls 41-0 to Calhoun

Just when it seemed like the Beardstown Tigers had built some momentum and had a chance to make a game of it with Calhoun, a familiar bugaboo came out to haunt the Tigers.

After falling behind 14 to 0 in the first quarter, the Tigers made a nice offensive drive taking the ball down to the six-yard line where they had it first in goal.  Unfortunately, as has happened several times this year, Beardstown could not push the ball across the goal line from in close, turning it over on downs.  The Warriors then took the ball the length of the field to score again and make it 21-0, then a flurry of second quarter touchdowns carried Calhoun to a 41-0 victory, ending the Tigers season.  BHS finished 4-5 and although one 4-5 squad did make the IHSA playoffs, it was not the Tigers.  The Warriors, under former Beardstown coach Aaron Elmore, finish 6-3, and entered the postseason on quite a run, having won their last four games by a combined score of 186-0.

BHS Soccer Season Ends

Despite playing under a first-year head coach and having only two seniors, the Beardstown High School soccer team advanced to the Regional Championship game this season.

Unfortunately, a very good Peoria Christian Chargers team ended the Tigers’ season there.  The Chargers jumped out to a 2-0 lead at halftime and added an insurance goal in the second half to get a 3-0 shutout victory over BHS. Peoria Christian, now 21-4-2 on the year, knocked off Rock Island Alleman 4-0 in the sectional semi-final and were scheduled to face Quincy Notre Dame for the sectional title on October 24.
