The Beardstown Tiger wrestling team hosted a triangular meet last Thursday and lost two close matches to Pittsfield and Macomb.  

Against the Saukees, Pittsfield prevailed over the Tigers by a score of 40 to 30.  Winning Beardstown wrestlers were Luis De La Cruz by fall at 0:43 at 138 pounds and Maddox Medrano by fall at 1:19 at 144 pounds.

Facing two tough teams last week, the Beardstown junior high boys’ basketball teams lost all four contests.

On Monday at Macomb, the Bomber seventh grade squad knocked off the Tigers 44 to 24.  Beardstown fell behind early, 12 to 3 after a quarter and fought hard to stay in the game in the second quarter as the lead was 22 to 11 at the half.  A tough third quarter put the Tigers down 32 to 13 heading to the final frame.  Beardstown did get six guys in the scoring column with DeWade Gaffney netting seven, Ashten Guzman scoring six, Brayden Piotrowski and Tucker Sorrells each notching four, Oliver Davis getting two and Uriel Gil hitting a free throw for one.  Individual scoring was not available for the eighth-grade game, but the Tigers took it on the chin by a score of 39 to 13.

Lady Tigers and Lady Trojans lose

It was a light load for both the Beardstown Lady Tiger and the Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia Lady Trojan basketball teams with just one game each last week.  Beardstown hosted North Fulton on Monday.  Triopia, who went on the road to Carrollton on Monday, was scheduled to play Calhoun on Thursday but the contest was postponed.

Tigers win twice on road

The Beardstown Tigers took to the road last week to play a couple of West Central Conference games and picked up two victories over Liberty and Brown County.  The wins give the hometown hoopsters a conference record of 2-1 and an overall mark of 8-2.

Last weekend for ChristkindMarkt

This is the final weekend for the Beardstown ChristkindMarkt on the square. Chalet vendors will be there December 22nd and 23rd from 4:00 to 7:00 on Friday and 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday.

Corps of Engineers condemns steps

While many questions, inquiries and rumors have been floating around town regarding the destruction of steps and removal of flood gates at the foot of State Street. Beardstown Sanitary District Superintendent Wells Petersen cleared the air.

No Tax Levy increase for Beardstown

At the Beardstown City Council meeting held December 5th, Petie Ruch, City Clerk, discussed the 2023 Tax Levy. 

He stated that the bottom line for the tax levy is there will be no increase. The amount will stay the same as it was last year. There were increases in some areas and decreases in others resulting in no big changes overall.

Tigers down Bluejays – Lose to Camp Point Panthers

In a Cass County rivalry game last Tuesday, it was the Beardstown Tigers going on the road to Ashland to defeat PORTA-AC Central 53 to 45, giving coach Eric Anderson his first career victory over the Bluejays.  

On Thursday, the Tigers hosted Camp Point in a girl-boy double dip and lost to the highly regarded Panthers 52 to 39, the exact same score as Beardstown’s only other loss this year to West Central.  BHS is now 6-2 on the season.

Lady Tigers top Rebels

The Beardstown Lady Tiger basketball team split a pair of games last week, winning on the road at South Fulton then falling at home to Camp Point Central-Southeastern as part of a girl-boy double header against the Panthers.  Beardstown now has a record of 8-5 on the season.

The Beardstown High School Wrestling team traveled to Petersburg last Saturday to compete in the Rex Avery PORTA Invite. 

At 138 pounds, Maddox Medrano scored three team points.  He won by major decision 22-13 to start things then lost by fall at 1:10 and by fall at 2:42.  Luis De La Cruz placed 6th and scored 13.5 team points at 144 pounds.  He won by fall at 0:53 and 1:16 before losing by fall at 0:39.  He then won by technical fall before losing the 5th Place Match by fall at 2:35.
