A-C Central 8th grade Student of the Month for October is Lillian Kirchner. Lily, as everyone knows her, is the daughter of Kyson and Brittany Kirchner.

On a foggy day at the Rushville 2A Cross Country Sectional at Schy-Rush Park, both the PORTA-AC Central boys’ and girls’ junior high cross-country teams punched their ticket to the IESA State Finals Meet in Normal on Saturday, October 18. The girls finished second overall, with Charlize Chick taking first place overall and Ellie Goodman finishing tenth.
Ashland Mayor Nancy Kyrouac mentioned at last week’s village board meeting that the village has had to deal with a pair of hornet’s nests recently. The first of these was at West Park and one resident had been stung.
A-C Central Senior Student of the Month for September is Maximilian Kesselring. Max is the son of Brett & Jackie Kesselring.
Both the girls’ and boys’ PORTA-AC Central High School Golf Teams finished off their regular season last week. The Lady Bluejays went to Scripps Park in Rushville for a dual with Rushville on Monday and got the win, shooting 202.
The short high school golf season is quickly drawing to a close with the area teams gearing up for conference and postseason play.
Ashland Fire Protection District Chief Shane Hall called off a ban on open burning in the district on Monday. Hall issued the ban last Wednesday following discussion with the fire protection district board at the previous night’s meeting.
The A-C Central School Board looked into resurfacing work on the teacher parking lot but when the bid cost came in, they experienced a case of sticker shock. Architect Kevin Handy of Graham and Hyde Architects Inc.
The Ashland Village Board considered a resident’s request to add stop signs at two intersections on the north side of Ashland at last week’s village board meeting. As a result, a stop sign ordinance is expected to be voted on at next month’s meeting.
The AC Central Junior High School softball team only won one of three games last week, defeating just the Lincoln Magnet Leopards by a score of 9 to 7. The Lady Knights lost to West Central 13 to 3 and to the Springfield Catholic Cyclones 13 to 1.
