Trojan Baseball Results

The Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia baseball team had a busy first week, taking advantage of the weather to play three games, winning one and losing two in the process.  They lost their opener on the road at Illini West, beat Camp Point in a good game at home, then lost to Peoria Heights in a close one at home.

Lady Trojans fall in Sectional

The Triopia Lady Trojan eighth grade volleyball team’s season ended one game short of the state tournament.

Triopia faced off against Kinderhook-Western in the Our Saviors Sectional Championship game on Monday, March 11.  The Trojans lost 25-12, 25-16 to end their season at 16-9. Kinderhook moves on to the Class 1A State Tournament with a record of 19-3.

Jill Roegge and Isaac French cut the ribbon in front of their new coffee shop location.

Ribbon cutting at Isaac’s Coffee Shop

Once Isaac French graduated from the Triopia where he served the teachers their daily coffee, Isaac’s mom, Jill Roegge, decided since the day training program in Beardstown had closed, Isaac needed daily activity. Isaac has Down syndrome. And going with Isaac’s love of serving the teachers their coffee, Jill opened a small coffee shop with Isaac. It all began in July of 2021 in a pull behind trailer for Isaac to continue to bless his teachers with his special coffee.

Area Junior High Volleyball

The AC Central seventh grade volleyball team are the 1A Regional Champions. The Knights, seeded #1 in their own regional, followed an opening round bye with a regional semifinal win over fifth seeded Springfield St. Agnes 25-16, 25-9. In the Championship game last Thursday, the Knights took down #2 seed Springfield Calvary in a thriller, 22-25, 25-18, 25-22, to win the title and advance to Sectionals. They were scheduled to play undefeated Carrollton St. John’s at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 4 in Virginia. The eighth-grade team was the number four seed in the Calvary Regional and were eliminated from post season play in the opening round by Jacksonville Our Savior by scores of 25-20, 25-16.

Vipers Strike Down Trojans

Playing for the second time in a week, the Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia boys basketball team lost again to the South County Vipers, this time ending the Trojan’s season in the regional semi-final game. The loss followed an opening round crushing of Brown County by the Trojans.

Warriors knockout Lady Trojans

A young Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia girls basketball teams’ season ended at the hands of top seeded Hardin-Calhoun in a regional semifinal game last Tuesday. The Lady Trojans, who lose just one senior, finished the season with a record of 14-15 in Coach Kelley Wessler’s second year at the helm.

Tornadoes & Vipers take down Trojans

It was a tough finishing schedule for the Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia Trojans as they faced highly regarded Griggsville-Perry and South County to close the season last week.  Two encouragingly close battles ensued with the Trojans falling to the Tornadoes 53 to 45 and to the Vipers 35 to 31.

Lady Trojans advance

The third time was the charm for the Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia Lady Trojan basketball team as they beat South Fork for the first time in three tries to win in the opening round of their own regional.

In a process that is yet to make sense to me, the Lady Trojans traveled to the better seeded Ponies home floor in the opening game even though Triopia is the Regional host. Nevertheless, Triopia got the win, roping and tying the Ponies in 43 to 38 victory, moving to 14-14 on the season. Prior to regional action, the Trojans knocked off North Greene and lost to Pawnee.
