PORTA-AC Cross Country: Jr. High Punches Ticket to State; High School Shines in Conference

On a foggy day at the Rushville 2A Cross Country Sectional at Schy-Rush Park, both the PORTA-AC Central boys’ and girls’ junior high cross-country teams punched their ticket to the IESA State Finals Meet in Normal on Saturday, October 18. The girls finished second overall, with Charlize Chick taking first place overall and Ellie Goodman finishing tenth.

Back-to-back wins for Bluejay Football

Back-to-back wins for the PORTA-AC Central High School football team has pushed their record to 3-3 for the season and the Bluejays are just two wins away from making the playoffs for the first time since 2013. PORTA-AC scored 44 points for the second straight week in pounding Auburn 44 to 20 on the road.

PORTA-AC Central Golf

Both the girls’ and boys’ PORTA-AC Central High School Golf Teams finished off their regular season last week. The Lady Bluejays went to Scripps Park in Rushville for a dual with Rushville on Monday and got the win, shooting 202.

Bluejay Football flies by Cardinals

The PORTA-AC Central High School football team picked up an important win last week to move to 2-3 on the season, blowing out rival Pleasant Plains 42 to 8. Triopia-Meredosia-Chambersburg-Virginia lost to a very good Brown County team by an identical score of 42 to 8 and are also 2-3 on the season.

Virginia Board to discuss AC Central District request

During the Virginia School Board on Monday evening, the board discussed being approached by A-C Central School District about looking into the possibility of restructuring with the Virginia School District. Again, this is just a very preliminary inquiry.

Cass County government/school meetings

A-C Central School Board will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 15 at the Board Conference Room, Unit Office, 501 W. Buchanan Street, Ashland.

Diamond sports end for area teams

Five good seasons ended a little earlier than hoped for all the area junior high softball and baseball teams as they all lost earlier than expected in postseason play.

Ashland may get more stop signs

The Ashland Village Board considered a resident’s request to add stop signs at two intersections on the north side of Ashland at last week’s village board meeting. As a result, a stop sign ordinance is expected to be voted on at next month’s meeting.
