The AC-Central seventh grade volleyball team’s postseason march took them all the way to the State Championship game. Only a junior high sports juggernaut, West Lincoln-Broadwell, prevented the Lady Knights from becoming state champs. A second-place finish in the state of Illinois in Class 1A is quite an accomplishment and the future is obviously bright for this group of young ladies.
Congratulations to the AC Central 6th grade girls volleyball team on winning the Virginia Tournament held February 17th. - Congratulations to the AC Central 7th Grade girls volleyball team on their 1A Regional Championship victory over Springfield Calvary.
The A-C Central school board aired its complaints concerning the athletic co-op with PORTA, but still wants to stay in it and discussed pursuing a joint statement of support with PORTA school district. The discussion at last week’s board meeting followed a meeting with PORTA about the co-op attended by Trustees Debra Petefish and Curtis Cosner.
Three of the four Cass County seventh grade volleyball teams’ seasons ended last week in regional play.
The only surviving team did not play, as AC Central is the #1 seed in their own regional and received a bye in Saturday’s opening round. They were scheduled to play in the regional semifinal on Tuesday, February 27 against fifth seeded Springfield St. Agnes. The AC Central eighth grade team is the four seed in the Calvary Regional and open play on Saturday, March 2 at 9:00 a.m. against Jacksonville Our Savior. If they win, they play the host team later in the day at approximately 12:00 p.m.
The A-C Central school board voted at last week’s meeting to join a lobbying group for rural schools. The Association of Illinois Rural and Small Schools was formed in 1987 to represent the interests of rural and small schools in government. There is a membership fee. The decision to join was at the instigation of Trustee Dan Cuba who raised the possibility at last month’s meeting.
The beat goes on for the PORTA/A-C Central Lady Bluejays as they won their only game last week to improve to 23-1 on the year. The boys’ team meanwhile split a pair of home games to remain over .500 on the season at 11-9.
The A-C Central School Board voted to accept a donation of furniture at last week’s board meeting. The furniture, valued in total at about $15,000, is from Registered Agents Solutions, Inc. It includes teachers’ desks, tables, filing cabinets, and L-shaped desks.
Three PORTA-AC Central Bluejay senior athletes signed their name on the dotted line to compete at the college level last Wednesday as part of National Signing Day.
Jayce Privia signed with McKendree University to play basketball. The Bearcats are a Division II school located in Lebanon. Trace Donnan inked with Augustana and will play golf. The Vikings are a Division III school located in Rock Island. Finally, Haven Gronewold signed to run cross country and track and field with Stetson University. The Hatters are Division I and are located in Deland, Florida.
