School board slashes only middle school activities from budget

A five-page agenda for the Beardstown District 15 Board of Education on March 25 recommended budget cuts that would have eliminated programs and positions but resulted in only middle school activities being thrown out. Middle school extracurricular employees will be given a reduction in force dismissal notice following that action. High school extracurricular employees who were expecting to be given the notice were saved as the recommendation to eliminate high school clubs and activities failed.
Summer weight lifting, boys and girls golf, and cross country were among the proposed cuts which also made the grade to stay along with the coaches.
