School board ponders excess property options

The question on what to do with the Washington School property site that housed the Charter School before its closing was a topic of discussion at the June 24 meeting of the Beardstown Board of Education.
Options included using it for storage, renting it, and selling it. There had also been an inquiry about it for possible use as a day care center.
A study of the site indicated the need for a new sprinkler system, handicap accessibility and other updates.
A motion to begin the process of selling the property was made but failed on a 4-3 vote as some board members sought more time to consider the options.
