Sandbagging efforts underway in Meredosia

Sandbagging efforts began along the Illinois River in Meredosia Tuesday morning in order to better prepare the town against possible flooding, according to Jacksonville-Morgan County Office of Emergency Management Director Phil McCarty.
Sandbagging may continue until early Friday, McCarty said, and is occurring as a result of the Illinois River reaching a height of just under 25 feet. Some county roads near the river have been closed due to flooding; the sandbagging, however, will not force the closure of any additional roads.
