Tigers Tame Panthers in Opener

The Beardstown Tiger Baseball Team won their season opener 6 to 3 over the Camp Point Panthers. The Tigers then suffered two very tough losses, as Canton and Athens both made late inning comebacks to defeat BHS, leaving the orange and black with a 1-2 record for their opening week of play.

Ducks down Bluejays

The undefeated start of the PORTA/A-C Central Baseball team ended in disappointing fashion with a loss to the Havana Ducks last Tuesday. The Bluejays would quickly rebound to defeat Rockridge at Future Champions Sports Complex in Jacksonville in the High School Jamboree on Friday.

Lady Tigers take down Lady Jays

An early season matchup between area softball teams went the way of Beardstown as the Lady Tigers took down PORTA/A-C by a score of 9 to 2 last Saturday at home. It was the season opener for the Tigers while PORTA/A-C also won their opener, last Thursday, 6 to 2 at home over Lincoln.

ISP conducting death investigation

On March 24, Beardstown Police Department, Cass County Sheriff’s Department, Beardstown Ambulance and Beardstown Fire Department responded to 1200 block of State Street to a call about an unresponsive mail. Junior Ngoyi Kalonji, 37, was pronounced dead and the scene was secured.
