Area hoopers receive honors

Postseason accolades continue to come in for area basketball players. For PORTA/A-C Central, Senior Griffin McClure was named First Team All-Conference in the stacked Sangamo Conference.

JH volleyball season ends

The junior high school volleyball season officially ended for area teams as all the local eighth grade teams were knocked out in regional action. A-C Central, Triopia and Virginia all competed in Class 1A with A-C Central the number two seed in the Greenview Regional.

Area Sports to lose an all-time great

A sad day is on the horizon for fans of high school sports in West Central Illinois, especially Cass County. Rich Thompson has announced that he will retire from teaching and coaching at the end of the Triopia school year and the Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia baseball season.

Virginia mayor 's position abandoned

The Virginia City Council held an emergency meeting on Monday, March 17. This meeting was necessary to fill the potion of mayor after Randy McClure abandoned the position at the March 10 regular council meeting.

Elks Club stepping away from fireworks

During the March 18 Beardstown City Council meeting, Katie Vitale, Executive Director Beardstown Chamber of Commerce, came before the council to make the council aware of the Beardstown Elks Club will not be organizing the Fourth of July fireworks display any longer. The Elks has organized the fireworks display for many years and both Vitale and the council thanked them for doing such a wonderful job.

LLCC to host regional science fair March 22

Lincoln Land Community College will host the annual Illinois Junior Academy of Science (IJAS) Region 10 Science Fair on Saturday, March 22 in Cass Gym on the LLCC-Springfield campus, 5250 Shepherd Road. The public is invited to view the science projects on display from noon to 2 p.m.
