April is Autism Acceptance Month

As we enter into autism awareness month, it is important to get to know people with this disorder and realize that their potential is limitless.

Chandlerville discusses new backhoe purchase

At Chandlerville Village Board meeting held April 9, Board Member Dean Eilers brought up that the current backhoe the village has is going to start costing the village money. It currently has two cylinders that are leaking, a hole in the bucket and is starting to rust in various areas.

Lift station project bid accepted

The Ashland Village Board accepted a bid for its sewer lift station project at last week’s meeting. Lift stations are pump stations used to move sewage and wastewater from a lower to a higher elevation.

Cass County courthouse receives Save Illinois Grant

Judge TJ Wessel addressed the Cass County Board on Monday, April 14, to let them know that Cass County has received a Save Illinois Grant worth $175,334.59 for technology. The courthouse will have panic buttons under each desk in the courthouse that when triggered will go directly to the sheriff’s office, police vehicles and State Police if in the area; a new tax server with networking and internet; new fax machines and a few new computers; Judge Wessel received a new iPad to be able to work from anywhere; New PC gyms for Case Management; Subscriptions for a year totaling close to $75,000; 18 Pocket Talks for translating; replacing acoustic paneling replacement; new copiers with toners, ink and maintenance for two years; and new assisted listening devices for courthouse.

Couloute arrested for murder

A Jacksonville man was arrested Thrursday, April 3, in Indiana for murder according to Illinois State Police (ISP). Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 4 arrested 45-year-old Benchy Couloute, 45, for First Degree Murder (Class M Felony).

City Council hears concerns over proposed new animal shelter

During the public comment session of the Beardstown City Council meeting on Tuesday, April 8, Eric Snellgrove voiced concerns regarding the Cass County Animal Rescue using the old shelter center in Schmoldt Park for their sanctuary and adoption center.

Lady Tigers trounce Mustangs

A big conference win and a tough non-conference loss last week for the BHS Softball Team moved their record to 4-2 on the season.The Lady Tigers pounded Mendon Unity 17 to 0 at home last Monday then lost 9 to 4 on the road at Pleasant Plains last Thursday. Against Unity, Beardstown had ten hits, drew nine walks and took advantage of six Mustang errors in the easy win.
