Two Republican candidates vying for the seat of the Eighth Judicial next at-large circuit judge election addressed the Cass County Board meeting held Monday night.

New police chief still trying to get to work

At the Virginia City Council meeting Monday night, Police Chief Louis Kink reported that he is having trouble getting all the classes needed for him to get out in the field patrolling completed. He has until February of 2026 to get them complete but is not happy about having trouble getting them done.

Lady Indians Softball bounce back after loss

The Meredosia-Chambersburg-Triopia-Virginia Junior High School softball team rebounded from a 3-0 loss to Brown County to start their week with two big wins. The Lady Indians crushed Jacksonville Our Saviors 18-0 and Pikeland 12 to 2 to move to 10-5-1 on the season.

PORTA/A-C Central sweeps own Cross Country meet

The PORTA/A-C Central High School Cross Country team started their season in grand style winning both the boys’ and girls’ meet over five other teams in attendance at their own Early Bird Meet last week.

Tiger Volleyball drops two

The Beardstown High School volleyball team lost their first two games to open the season last week. The Lady Tigers fell in straight sets on the road against Western 13-25, 17-25 last Wednesday.

Good start for BHS Soccer

The Beardstown High School Soccer Team is off to a good start to the season, fashioning a 2-0-2 record over the first week of the season. The Tigers tied class 3A Galesburg and Quincy High School 2 to 2, while beating Abingdon-Avon 6-0 and Canton, Missouri 8-1.

The PORTA-AC Central Bluejay boys’ golf team was in action at their home digs, Shambolee Golf Course, for a quadrangular meet with the North Mac Panthers, West Central Cougars, and the Delavan Panthers last Tuesday.
