
BHS Music Dept. to present 'Footloose' this weekend

The Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia softball team went 3-1 last week as Addilynn Tracy finished up a rain suspended game from April 10th with Griggsville-Perry by tossing a no-hitter against the Tornadoes in an 11 to 0 win. The Trojans only loss was a 9 to 1 decision to sixth ranked Hardin Calhoun.
This is an important year for me, at least I think so. In a few months I will be 80 years old. Personally, I think that’s pretty special.
Teachers of Tomorrow reports the period of recognition dates back to the 1950’s when Arkansas teacher Mattye Whyte Woodridge began a movement to honor the profession. Former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt pushed Congress to officially establish it in 1953 but at the time it was only one day.
The Alzheimer’s Support Group will meet at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 18, at the old Washington School, 1008 East 5th Street, Beardstown.
The PORTA-AC Central High School track team competed in two events last week, with the boys tying for third out of seven teams in Beardstown and finishing fourth out of fourteen teams at the Rob Garcia Invitational in Rushville. The girls placed fifth out of six teams in Beardstown and thirteenth in the fourteen team Rob Garcia Invitational.
The PORTA-AC Central softball team picked up a conference win over the New Berlin Pretzels and suffered a conference loss to the Williamsville Bullets last week. The Lady Bluejays are now 6-9 overall and 2-4 in the Sangamo Conference.
The Beardstown High School track teams hosted a home meet last Thursday with the boys winning first place out of seven teams and the girls placing second out of six teams. On Saturday, the Tigers traveled to Rushville for the Annual Rob Garcia Co-Ed Invitational with both the boys and girls placing sixth out of fourteen teams.

National Nurses Week is celebrated every year from May 6th through May 12th. The conclusion on May 12 marks Florence Nightingale’s birthday.
