Sheriff Ohrn to run for re-election
Sheriff Devron Ohrn has announced his intent to seek re-election in the 2026 election. At this time, it is unknown if there will be an opponent running on the Democratic ticket, but as of now Sheriff Ohrn has thrown his hat in the ring for the Republican side.

Arenzville Methodist Church offer free Grief/Share program starting Sept. 16
The Arenzville United Methodist Church will begin facilitating a thirteen-week GriefShare program from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 16th This program will be held in the church fellowship hall at 200 E. Fredrick St. in Arenzville.
Chloe's Closet opens in Beardsown
Chloe Campbell, 19, a Beardstown native and 2024 graduate from Beardstown Christian Academy (BCA) is the daughter of the late Scott Campbell and Chris and Jennifer Jarrett. She has three brothers, Kyle, Cameron, and Conner and her beloved grandmother, June Conner.
MCS Community Services announces start of the Energy Assistance Program
MCS Community Services, as administrator of the Energy Assistance Program in Morgan, Cass, and Scott counties, is pleased to announce that funds are available to assist income-eligible households with their natural gas, propane and/or electric bills and furnace assistance for inoperable heating systems. The program will begin taking applications on October 1, 2025 for older adults (60 years+), individuals with a disability, families with children age five years and under, and households that are disconnected from their utilities, have a disconnection notice or haveless than 25% in their propane tank.
Fiscal Year 2026 Tentative Budget discussed at school board meeting
Beardstown School Superintendent Brent O’Daniell brought up the 2026 tenative budge that showed a beginning balance in the operating fund in the positive. But after the campus upgrades the board agreed to make, the ending balance was a deficit.
