BHS and Virginia-Triopia golf results

The Beardstown High School golf team continues to work hard and improve. On Monday August 28 at Shambolee Golf Course in Petersburg, sophomore Mary Escobar led BHS with a score of 62. Last Tuesday, the girls squad traveled to Rolling Greens in Mt. Sterling and brought home second place, led by senior Saray Chaparro. For the boy’s Cade Ross placed 5th individually, shooting a nice round of 42. Coach Riddle commented after the Brown County meet, “Both teams played well and are really making progress.” On Thursday the boys traveled to Plum Creek at Winchester where Grady O’Hara placed second, firing a 43 and Ross finished in the top five with a 45. On Friday at the K’s Creek Invite, playing 18 holes, Ross finished tied for 11th with an 83 and O’Hara was 19th overall with a 90.

PORTA/A-C Volleyball starts 4-3

The PORTA-AC Central high school volleyball team has started the 2023 season with a 4 and 3 record going 2-3 in the very competitive Springfield Lutheran Invite.  

The Lady Bluejays opened the season with a two-set road win over Lewistown, knocking off the Indians 25-23 and 25-18.  At the Lutheran Invite, the Jays started with a tough three-set loss to class 3A Chatham Glenwood, losing 25-21, 21-25, 13-15.

The good weather led to a five-game week for the Virginia/Triopia/Meredosia/Chambersburg J.H. Baseball team, and they picked up two wins for their efforts. A nine to three home loss on Monday to Our Saviours of Jacksonville started the week for the Redbirds. Jacksonville outhit the Birds nine to four and Virginia committed three errors in the game. Ryker Howe and Avery Neathery each had two hits and Cosmo Browning drew two walks in the loss.

A-C Central Knights Baseball

A-C Central/PORTA Knights’ have 5-0 week

A 5-0 week for the AC-Central-PORTA junior high baseball team culminated with winning the Virginia Tournament. The Knights started the week with a 13-1 short game win over Illini Central at home. AC scored in all four innings of the game and Trenton Bushnell did not allow a hit while striking out ten batters. Colton Nelson and Calob Cass each had two hits while Tate Karrick, Braxton Stice, Wesley Sampson, Wyatt Hays, Jackson Richard, Owen Gronewold, and Bushnell all had one hit.
