Virginia Board approves 2024 budget

The Virginia School Board unanimously agreed to approve the fiscal year 2024 budget. It was noted that the school will be making their final bus payment this year.

The board also needs to consider what it would like to do with any excess funds. They can put them in CD’s like in years past; or if anyone else can offer other suggestions for its usage then they can bring them forth. It was tabled until next meeting when more information about CD rates can be brought to the board’s attention.

Beardstown School Board approves FY 2024 budget, personnel updates

With no questions or comments from anyone present regarding the fiscal year 2024 budget, the Beardstown School Board approved it unanimously at the September 20 meeting. They also approved the Gard School Improvement plan and the Press Plus 112 policies without much discussion.

There was some discussion about what a district procurement card is. It is  basically a credit card for school use. The school has a card holder and securer, and  does not use the superintendent’s credentials. The only reason to use the card is for conferences or hotel bookings, instances when a credit card is the only way to secure the needed item. The superintendent and Kelly Herter would be the only ones to have cards at this time. The board approved the card.

Public Safety Ordinances discussed at Beardstown council meeting

The Public Safety Ordinance, which includes property maintenance code issues, was discussed at length in the September 19th Beardstown City Council meeting.

There are two types of violations: Property Maintenance Violations and Non-Property Maintenance Violations, examples are listed in the ordinance. If a code violation is written and a fine is given. If the person pays the fine without fixing the problem, then in this instance a charging document may be given. That person will then have so many days to fix the problem or ask for an extension in fixing the problem before they start acquiring daily sanctions. Abandoned buildings can also be subject to this ordinance.
