Ashland finalizes stop sign locations

Taking up business left over from last month, the Ashland Village Board finalizes the locations for new stop signs in the village. The ordinances passed at last week’s meeting of the village board authorized stop signs at the intersections of Alta St. and Topeka St., Progress St. and Alta, Richards St. and Hardin St. and Richards and Niagara St. Adding new stop signs was advocated by police Chief Martin Fanning. A new stop sign at Winooski St. and Forest St. had been authorized by the board last month.

Ayers celebrates 90 years

Peggy Ayers of Virginia, IL will be 90 years young on October 31st, 2023

She was born in Bloomfield, Missouri. She married Willis Ayers on August 14th, 1948. They became the parents of three children: Patricia (Kevin) McLaughlin, Terry (Marcia) Ayers and Amy (Steve) Theivagt. The family grew to five granddaughters, 11 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Two By Two in concert to celebrate Bluff Springs UMC Harvest Festival

Bluff Springs United Methodist Church will host its annual Harvest Festival Service with a Two By Two Concert at 2:00 p.m. this Sunday,  October 22.

This year, as usual, the front of the church’s sanctuary is decorated with pumpkins, squash, and many other vegetables and fruits, as well as canned goods and flowers.  Other items such as a bench and birdhouse made from old barn siding represent useful objects fashioned by members’ own hands.

Spencer Fortney, 51, Beardstown, was picked up Oct. 5 on a Cass County warrant for failure to appear (FTA) for possession of drug paraphernaia, domestic battery/physical contact, methamphetamine/under five grams and resisting a peace officer.  He was given a Recognizance/IBond, new court date and released.
