The story behind the decorations

This is the time of the year when many like to drive around to look at Christmas decorations. Many people put a lot of time and money into their work to inspire many of us to get into the Christmas mood.

There are some decorations that may need some explaining such as those at Roger Lauder’s residence on Route 125, west of Beardstown just down from Walmart. The first thing most of us see is the gigantic ship in the front yard. Why a ship? Plus, there are other decorations that may stir some questions. Lauder was kind enough to share his inspirations and why he decorates the way he does.

Gifts

Gifts for senior citizens

Many times we fail to think about our senior citizens in the community who may never receive a gift during this special time of the year. This community can make a difference for our senior citizens.

Elves for Elders is a program designed by Community Hope and Recovery Center’s Community Care Program to bring some Christmas cheer to older community members. It is similar to the well-known Angel Tree except that an older person is chosen to receive a Christmas gift.

Looking Back – When the news media was trusted

This may come as a surprise to younger readers, but there was a time when most people placed strong trust in the news media.

In survey results released earlier this year by Gallup and the Knight Foundation as reported by the Associated Press, half of those surveyed “believe national news organizations intend to mislead, misinform or persuade the public to adopt a particular point of view through their reporting.”

Virginia clarification on  Senior trip

To clarify, on Monday, November 20th, the Virginia School Board voted to allow the Senior Class to utilize class funds to possibly go on a cruise for their senior trip. This trip would not be chaperoned by Virginia School staff nor would the Virginia School District consider this trip a district sponsored Senior Class Trip.
