The Triopia Junior High basketball teams continued to stack wins onto an already impressive season resume last week. The seventh grade Trojans beat A-C Central badly and lost a heartbreaker to South Fulton to move to 14-7 on the season. The eighth graders rolled to victory over both the Knights and the Rebels to improve to a stellar 17-4 on the year.
The Beardstown Tiger eighth grade basketball team picked up a much-needed win last week on the road at South Fulton. Beardstown held on to win a thriller 23 to 21. A rough start doomed the seventh grade Tigers in a 34 to 25 loss to the Rebels.
The Souper Bowl fundraiser benefitting Catholic Charities St. John’s Breadline will be serving up fresh soups to go.
These made-from-scratch soups will be available on Friday, February 9th at the Catholic Pastoral Center circle driveway, 1615 W. Washington Street, Springfield, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., or until sold out.
PORTA-A-C Central went 3-1 in the 101st Winchester Invitational Tournament to secure a Fifth-Place finish. After their opening round win over North Greene, the Bluejays faced off against eventual tourney champion West Central and fell 69 to 46. A 43 to 35 win over Triopia followed. PORTA-AC won the 5th Place game over Hardin Calhoun by a score of 54 to 47.

A small study published in the Journal of Hypertension found that drinking black tea could improve cardiovascular function. A separate study also found that drinking black tea and green tea could decrease risk of stroke and coronary heart disease. Black tea drinkers should keep in mind that, unlike most teas, black tea is caffeinated, so moderation is best to ensure the benefits of black tea are not offset by the overconsumption of caffeine.

Following a very successful two-day 88 Hoops Classic basketball tournament, members of the BASA Black Attack and the BHS Tigers pose after their Classic capping game.
