Trojans swat Hornets

The Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia boys basketball team split a pair of Western Illinois Valley Conference games last week, winning over rival Brown County and falling to highly ranked West Central.  The Trojans move to 8-10 overall and 3-2 in the conference heading into their own Varsity/JV tournament this week.

Area residents experienced an Artic blast of frigid cold weather over the weekend where most were able to stay indoors. However, first responders don’t get that luxury.

Cass County Board discusses unscheduled intercity buses

During their monthly scheduled meeting of the Cass County board on January 8th , the board discussed

the possible establishment of an ordinance establishing regulations for unscheduled intercity buses from larger cities and possibly from other states.

Beardstown updates various building codes 

Beardstown City Council met Tuesday, January 16th, to discuss amending various building codes.

Several members of the council questioned the section on mobile homes and wished to exclude it until they had discussed it further. They voted on the rest of the ordinance excluding section 7. All council members voted in favor except Dawn Seward, who voted against it.

Ashland may get Bed and Breakfasts and  AIRBNBs

Ashland Mayor Kitty Mau reported to the village board at last week’s meeting that she has been approached by residents about hosting a bed & breakfast and asked the board what they thought about having these operating in the village. The members of the board were receptive to the proposal.

Virginia Jr High & Petefish, Skiles & Co. are proud to present the student of the month for December to Cooper Lane. Cooper, pictured on the right, is in the 7th grade, and is a member of the Junior High Student Council. He also participates in baseball, football, and basketball. Cooper is a conscientious student who works hard in and out of the classroom. He is kind to his classmates and shows respect to everyone he comes in contact with throughout the school. Congratulations, Cooper!

More than $1 million ready to support 25 college students achieve their STEM goals

The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis has launched the Ameren All In Scholarship Fund, a $1,180,000, five-year commitment to provide 25 students annually with scholarship grants up to $10,000 per student per year for up to 10 semesters, or five years.
