Focus on Faith – What can you do to bring Glory to God this Lent?

I have yet to hear a parishioner say, “Lent is my favorite time of year.” I hear that sentiment about spring or fall or Christmastime and especially summer. Those rank among people’s favorite ‘times,’ but not Lent. At least it hasn’t been verbalized it to me.

One of the things I enjoyed most is the funny things they say. Many years ago, Art Linkletter hosted a comedy show called, “Kids Say the Darndest Things” from 1959-1967. Yes, I remember that show very well.

Residents lose power after vehicle strikes utility pole

It was a cold night for about ten homes on the east side of Beardstown early Monday morning. 

Michal M. Kayinduka, 48, crashed into an Ameren utility pole in the 1000 block of East 4th Street at 12:17 a.m. He was driving a white 2018 Volkswagen SUV. The vehicle was towed from the scene and Kayinduka had no apparent injuries.

Man cited in hit & run in JBS parking lot

The man who struck six vehicles in the JBS parking lot two weeks ago has been identified and arrested.

Louime Saint Gilles, 32, Meredosia, was arrested for having no insurance, driving without a driver’s license and leaving the scene of an accident.

LLCC offering free digital literacy classes for older adults 

Lincoln Land Community College has partnered with AT&T to offer free digital literacy training classes throughout 2024 to help bridge the technological divide for older adults. A series of seven initial courses is available this spring.

PACT for West Central Illinois now accepting applications for the 2023/25 program year

PACT for West Central Illinois now accepting applications for the 2023/25 program year forpregnant women and children ages birth to four who live in Adams, Brown, Cass, Hancock, McDonough, Pike, Schuyler, and Scott Counties.

Through Head Start and Early Head Start, PACT provides education, health, social services, and parent involvement. The parent engagement component emphasizes parents as the primary educator of their children. The health services include parent education, child health examinations, and where necessary, follow-up treatment in medical, dental, nutrition, and mental health for each Head Start and Early Head Start child. Services are provided either through weekly home visits with regular group experiences for the children and parents or by daily classes.

Cass-Morgan Farm Bureau FNDN Scholarship Application now open

The 2024 Cass-Morgan Farm Bureau Foundation (CMFBF) scholarship application is available online at jotform.com/cmfb1/scholarship or can be picked up at the office at 1152 Tendick St, Jacksonville.
