B’town Fire Dept Fish Fry

Beardstown Fire Department will hold a Fish Fry from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, March 29 at the fire station, 1119 Edwards Street in Beardstown.

Persons may dine-in, carry out or have it delivered to their homes. Menu includes fried fish, potato salad, baked beans bread and butter for a fee. Call orders in that morning at 217-323-1191.

Proceeds will be used to purchase equipment for the volunteers.

LLCC to host regional science fair March 16 

Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) will host the annual Illinois Junior Academy of Science Region 10 Science Fair on Saturday, March 16 in Cass Gym on the LLCC-Springfield campus, 5250 Shepherd Road. 

The public is invited to view the science projects on display from noon to 2 p.m. An awards ceremony will be held at 2 p.m.

The event will include students in grades 7-12 from a 13-county area including Adams, Brown, Cass, Christian, Green, Hancock, Macoupin, Montgomery, Morgan, Pike, Sangamon, Schuyler and Scott.

The public is invited to enjoy worship, special music, and spiritual revival with Evangelist Glenn Stevenson and family on March 17-22 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 28334 Oakford Rd, Chandlerville. The event will be held 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and and 6 p.m. Sunday and at 7 p.m. Monday - Friday.

Revival at Bethel Nazarene Church

Bob and Jennifer Wilkerson will hold a revival the Bethel Community Church of the Nazarene, 13068 E. Bethel Church Road, Arenzville.

The revival will be at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 16 and again at 10:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Sunday, March 17. At noon on Sunday a St. Patrick’s Day Dinner will be held. The public is invited.

UIS announces Fall ‘23 Dean’s List

The University of Illinois Springfield has released the names of the 681 students who made the Dean’s List for Fall Semester 2023.

Area students on the dean’s list include: 

• Arenzville: Maggie E. Foster

• Ashland: Addyson R. McClure, Jarrett W. Smith, Samantha R. Thompson

• Virginia: Zoey B. Perkins

A total of 99 students in the College of Business and Management; 325 students in the College of Health, Science and Technology; 101 students in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences; 128 students in the College of Public Affairs and Education; and 28 non-degree seeking or undecided students made the list.

Hinegardner named CNO at Culbertson Memorial Hospital

The Sarah D. Culbertson Memorial Hospital Board of Directors and Gregg Snyder, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) are pleased to announce Kristi Hinegardner, DNP, MSN, RN has been named Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). Hinegardner came to Culbertson from Lutheran Senior Services and has been the Director of Clinical Operations since May 2022. Having served as a nurse, manager, and director in both the ambulatory and hospital setting, Hinegardner has the experience needed to effectively lead at Culbertson.

Kiwanis announces recipient of .5K race; accepting registrations 

Jacksonville area residents ready for a short walk or run for charity next month can register for an exciting event that will benefit The Esprit de Corps Academy.

The Jacksonville Kiwanis Club’s annual .5K Walk, Skip, Run or Roll for charity will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, at Don’s Place in Downtown Jacksonville. Participants only have to travel a short .5K route – approximately 1/3 of a mile – to Bahan’s Tavern to complete the race.
