PORTA/A-C Track wins home meet

The PORTA-AC Central Track Teams swept to victory in the boys and girls meet at the PORTA Co-Ed Invitational last week. Jacob Vogel won the 100 and 200 meter dash, Daxton Trueblood won the 800 meters and Justin Zimmerman placed second, Kade Parker won the 1600, Bryson Schachtsiek won the 110 and the 300 hurdles and the long jump, and Isaac Rennecker won the high jump and the triple jump. Alanna Sparks was second in the 1600, Maggie Zimmerman was second in the 3200, Lauren Harrison won the 100 hurdles and was second in the 300 hurdles, Tristan Shaub was second in the shot put and the discus and Summer Perman won the high jump.

Virginia-Meredosia-Triopia High School track results

The Virginia-Meredosia-Triopia High School track teams competed in two meets last week.  On Monday the boys placed eighth out of nine teams and the girls placed third out of eight teams at the Tom Johnson Invitational at Pittsfield. Jack Parlier placed fourth in the high jump, Brady Seymour took sixth in the high jump and seventh in the shot put, Braden Hutson was sixth in the long jump and Cristian Provo placed seventh in the triple jump. Ta’Shia Allen was second in the 100 meters, Faith Wingert was third in the 100 and second in the 200, Ava Petefish was first in the triple jump, third in the long jump and second in the 400 meters, Payten Petefish was fourth in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump and the 200 meters, Ashton Stanberry placed third in the 300 hurdles and fourth in the 100 hurdles and Kaylee Beck was third in the 3200 and sixth in the 1600. The 4x100 relay team of Wingert, Stanberry, Ava Petefish and Allen won their race.

Lady Bluejays Softball results

It was a frustrating week for the PORTA-AC Central softball team as they went 2-2 with both losses coming in rivalry games. The Lady Jays beat Midwest Central then lost to Athens and Pleasant Plains before knocking off Jacksonville to end the week.

Earlier in the week the Tigers defeated Springfield Southeast 2 to 0 behind goals from Jocelyn Ojeda and Ashley Gil and an assist by Xixi Marquez. On Thursday the girls shot down the Bombers at Macomb 2 to 0. Marquez had both goals and Ojeda had an assist. The Lady Tigers improved to 8-2-2 on the season.

BJHS and BHS Track action

All three components of the Beardstown Track and Field system were in action once last week as the Junior High team traveled to Rushville and the Freshmen/Sophomores and Varsity each went to Havana on different days.In the four-team junior high meet last Monday, the Tiger boys finished first in the eighth grade and second in the seventh grade to win the combined meet championship.

Softball

Perfect Week for Lady Trojans

The Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia softball team took full advantage of the good weather last week, by going a perfect 5 and 0 to run their season record to 8-3.  

They started things off by pounding Brown County in Mt. Sterling 18 to 2.  Mylee Tracy gave up just two hits and struck out nine in the five inning blow out. Addison Rohn had two hits and three RBIs and Gabby Myers had two hits and two RBIs.  Lindy Parlier, Rhianna Lovekamp, and Rilyn Waid all added a base hit in the win.

Baseball

Tough losses for Trojan Baseball

It was a rough week for the Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia baseball team as they suffered four losses against just one win.  Two of the losses were by one run, they were allowed just one hit in the third loss and had only two hits in the last one.

Tigers take down Rushville

In a very busy week, the Beardstown baseball team went 2-3 but did pick up a win over their arch-rival Rushville-Industry. The Tigers lost on the road 8 to 6 to Havana, defeated the Rockets 11 to 5 at their place and beat Bushnell Prairie City 12 to 0 then lost to Altamont 8 to 0 and West Hancock 17 to 10 in the Tiger Showcase at Lewis and Jones Fields. Beardstown placed fourth in the six team showcase and are now 6-5 on the season.

Redbird Jr High Track

The Virginia-Triopia Junior High Track teams had a very successful week placing first in the girls’ seventh grade, eighth grade and combined and first in the boys eighth grade and combined and second in seventh grade at Camp Point on Monday. On Tuesday, at the St. Agnes meet they placed second in all but the boys combined where they placed third.

Life Saving Awards presented to Cass, other county law enforcement and emergency services personnel

The Illinois Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) State Lodge presented several awards on April 6 during a meeting of the FOP Spoon River Valley Lodge # 427 in Canton.

Awards were presented to five Cass County law enforcement and emergency services personnel for their response to recent shootings in Ashland; a Fulton County Sheriff’s Deputy for his actions at the scene of a serious accident; three Knox County Sheriff’s Deputies whose police work resulted in huge illegal drug seizures; and a Farmington pastor whose congregation has demonstrated outstanding support for local law enforcement.
