Autumn is a time for apple picking, pumpkin spice everything (yes, I’m on that side of the debate), final garden harvests, and tree planting. While April gets a lot of attention for being Arbor Month, let’s consider autumn as another great time to plant trees.

Season ends at Sectional for area golfers

The high school golf season ended in sectional play for all the area golfers as several local players made it past regional, but none were able to qualify for State Tournament play.

OSHA violations at the BFD; Acting Fire Chief Hager resigns

Mayor Tim Harris announced at Beardstown City Council meeting Tuesday night he had received notification from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) that there were some violations at the Beardstown Fire Department. At this time, the mayor and the fire department will have to discuss the issues and determine a plan of action to correct the issues that were targeted.

Savvy Caregiver Classes in Beardstown

The Savvy Caregiver, a community education program is being offered in Beardstown. Classes will be held at the Golden Age Center, 111 West 3rd Street, Beardstown.

Eckert elected CBAI at-large director

Rich Eckert, president and chief executive officer of the Beardstown Savings, s.b., was elected as an at-large director of the Community Bankers Association of Illinois (CBAI) at the associate’s annal convention held recently in Kansas City, MO. As an at-large director, he serves on the CBAI Board of Directors and its Strategic Planning Committee.

Trojans claim Black & Blue Trophy

The Triopia-Meredosia-Chambersburg-Virginia High School Football team reclaimed the coveted Black and Blue Trophy with a homecoming win over Cass County rival Beardstown last Friday night. Just as importantly to the Trojans, they kept alive their very real playoff hopes, improving to 3-3.
