Sharon Rose Spillers, 78, of Beardstown died Tuesday, Dec. 15, at her home.
She was born June 24, 1937 in Saidora, the daughter of Herman W. and Opal Wells Spoon. She married Fred L. Spillers on Sept. 15, 1956 in Beardstown and he preceded her in death on Aug. 9, 2013.
She is survived by three daughters, Kim Wyatt of Jacksonville, Dawn Golden of Brookfield, Mo., and Courtney Spillers of Chicago; two sons, Dane (Lori) Spillers of Springfield and Kyle Spillers of Georgetown, Texas; ten grandchildren, Lindsay Borst, Whitney Antonocci, Colby Romanotto, Ty Golden, Dylan and Jacob Warrens, Cody, Kelsey, and Caitlin and Karley Spillers; four great-grandsons; two brothers, Raymond (Sue) Spoon of Quincy and Dean (Mary) Spoon of El Dorado, Kan.; three sisters, Bonnie (Mike) O’Hara of Tifton, Ga., Janet (Bill) Petersen of Beardstown and Marilyn (Dave) McNeal of Bethany, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Woodrow “Woody” Spoon (surviving wife, Terri of Albany, Ga.), Lee Ann Bietsch (surviving husband, Al of Beardstown) and Shelba Dyer.
Mrs. Spillers was a faithful member of First Congregational Church in Beardstown. She volunteered as a teacher’s aide reading to the students at Gard Elementary in Beardstown. Sharon enjoyed her daily walks around town and was an avid reader. She was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and rooted for the Fighting Illini basketball team.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at First Congregational Church in Beardstown with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery. Family will meet with friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Memorials are suggested to First Congregational Church.
